The Faculty of Continuing Education at Mount Royal University invites applications for a credit‑free contract instructor. Mount Royal University has provided continuing education to the Calgary community and beyond for more than 60 years, offering more than 1,000 courses and 100 certificate and diploma programs with over 50,000 course registrations each year.
About the RoleThe Person al Fitness Trainer diploma program offers a comprehensive health science education with an emphasis on special populations. The curriculum consists of academic and technical courses and was designed to meet the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology – Certified Personal Trainer national certification. The department is seeking an instructor with the ability to teach the following course part‑time in the Fall 2026 semester:
XPFT 20300 Principles & Methods of Training- Mondays and Wednesdays
- September 9, 2026 - December 2, 2026: 2:00 pm - 3:55 pm
- Final Exam
- Wednesday, December 16: 2:00 pm - 3:55 pm
Students will learn the components of fitness and how to identify and choose appropriate methods and modalities for achieving the components of fitness. Upon completion of this course, the student will:
- identify the principles of conditioning in order to develop the components of fitness
- establish training methods for each of the components of fitness
- identify the appropriate method of training for developing the specific components of fitness
- prescribe the appropriate mode of training for the desired training outcome in an effective, safe and professional manner
- Marking and grading of assessments
- Preparation of course outlines and learning materials
- Delivery of course content using the approved curriculum
- Review and revision of course assessments
- Submission of course grades to the administration team
- Maintenance of regular contact with the program administrative team
- Participation in virtual instructor meetings and individual meetings with the program coordinator as required
- Adherence to program policies and deadlines
- Master’s degree in Health Science, Kinesiology or a related field (PhD an asset)
- Experience with CSEP‑CPT
- 3-5 years of applicable professional experience
- Working knowledge of copyright and APA citation
- Excellent presentation, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
- Minimum two years of instructional experience in an adult education environment
- Strong organisational and time‑management skills
- Self‑motivated and self‑directed
- Proficiency with Google Workspace
- Proficiency with the D2L learning management system (asset)
