Qualifications
  • Holds a valid NJ Driver's license.
  • Holds or must obtain a CDL within two months of employment.
  • Teacher certification or certification and/or experience in a related area.
  • Knowledge of special education code as it relates to transition activities, ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and DOL Child Labor Laws.
  • Knowledge of existing local and state agencies that support the transition process (e.g., DVRS, DDD, SSI).
  • Highly qualified in the area of job coaching special needs students in community and/or vocational settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate effectively with school administrators, teachers, parents/guardians, students, and employers.
  • Experience collaborating with agencies, parents/guardians, and districts.
  • Demonstrated attitude for successful completion of tasks assigned.
  • Other alternatives to the above qualifications as the Commission may find appropriate and acceptable.
Scope

Reports To:

Building level principal/administrator or Superintendent's designee.

Terms of Employment

Full‑time position. Salary to be established by the ESCNJ Board of Directors.

Performance Responsibilities
  • Design and implement travel training for students with disabilities.
  • Outreach to the local business community to provide work‑based learning, including career tours, group or individual internship and employment for students with disabilities.
  • Ensure that eligible students are provided with an ongoing community‑based vocational program.
  • Work with the building principal/administrator, the student’s teacher(s), and members of the school community to assess vocational needs and the physical and learning capabilities of students requiring community‑based vocational placements.
  • Meet with each assigned student on a regularly scheduled basis to provide job coaching.
  • Assume responsibility for obtaining contacts and work sites in the community necessary for vocational instruction as established by ESCNJ.
  • Assess, on an ongoing basis, student strengths and weaknesses, and provide appropriate activities to meet student needs.

Files written progress reports on each assigned student with the ESCNJ building‑level principal and/or administrator and the sending district.

Student Management
  • Facilitate a positive and orderly learning environment for the assigned student.

Maintains and files required reports and records such as attendance reports and case evaluations.

Instructional Planning
  • Coordinate, with advice from the student’s regular teacher(s), an instructional program for each assigned student receiving a community‑based program.

Coordinate with the student’s teacher(s) and the appropriate district personnel the ongoing evaluation of the student, including providing grades when appropriate.

Professional Development

Keeps informed in a systematic way of educational trends and new vocational education methods, remaining alert to opportunities for adaptation to the particular needs of the students.

School/Community Relations
  • Work cooperatively with parents/guardians to implement the appropriate instructional program.
  • Work cooperatively with the classroom teacher of students receiving job coaching or vocational training.
  • Properly complete all required materials from work sites.
  • Perform other duties as deemed necessary by the ESCNJ building‑level principal/administrator or Superintendent's designee.
Benefits

Full‑time staff are eligible for Medical, Prescription, and Dental benefits. Pension system enrollment varies by position and certification. Vacation, sick, personal, and bereavement days are included.

Minimum Salary: $35,000
