About the Role

The Transitional Vocational Program is located at Mount Royal University, Lincoln Park Campus, serving adults with developmental disabilities, and is seeking a contract credit-free instructor for Functional Math and Literacy courses in Transitional Vocational Program (TVP) Part Time Studies.

We are seeking instructors with the ability to teach the following course(s):

Functional Math & Literacy - This course focuses on developing everyday reading, writing, listening, speaking and viewing skills. This course helps learners understand numbers, use calculators for daily living needs, understand income expenses and to be aware of community resources.

Fall 2026 (Sept. 9 - Dec. 11, 2026) and Winter 2027 (early January to mid April);
Wednesdays/Fridays (4 hours/day) 10am - 12pm and 1pm - 3pm.

Responsibilities
  • Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outline, course activities, lesson preparation and assessments, and course Blackboard site.
  • Administration: submit course attendance sheets, course outline signature forms, input final grades upon course completion, and participate in scheduled program meetings.
  • Conduct assessments to determine student levels and progress.
  • Instruct classes using appropriate curricula geared to the students’ individual learning styles and abilities.
  • Provide feedback to students and supports on academic performance in a timely manner.
  • Utilize creative and innovative methods to promote learning of course materials and learning outcomes.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and staff members.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Skilled in modifying instruction to meet student need.
  • Experience working with adults with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience using computers and technology as a teaching tool, specifically the Google Platform.
  • Experience with formative and summative assessment.
  • Ability to apply curriculum in an individualized and challenging manner.
  • Proven skills in classroom management.
