Glenmore Christian Academy (GCA) is a private Alberta accredited Christian school located in the Southwest of Calgary, Alberta, specializing in the education of children in Grades JK-9. GCA is a member of AISCA (Association of Independent Schools and Colleges in Alberta) as well as ACSI (Association of Christian Schools International). GCA’s mission is to Teach Truth, Inspire Excellence, Experience Christ and Serve Through Love.

GCA has a head of school, two principals, three vice principals and a staff of over 125 serving approximately 1000 students.

GCA has an opportunity for a part time Associate Pastor of Spiritual Formation. Under the direction and mentorship of the Pastor of Spiritual Formation, this individual will work alongside GCA students, families, staff and church stakeholders as a resource in forming and promoting issues of a moral, spiritual and pastoral nature for the  school year.

Responsibilities

The key responsibilities for the Associate Pastor of Spiritual Formation will be wide in scope and will include many different tasks. Responsibilities may include, although may not be limited to:

Leading / Facilitating Musical Worship:
  • Consistently lead musical worship during retreats, chapels and staff devotions
  • Oversee Junior High chapel teams and development of student worship leaders
Spiritual Formation of Students:
  • Foster and develop relationships which carry out the overall vision for spiritual formation and character development at GCA
  • Assist in the planning and executing of junior high grade level retreats, elementary leadership day, and other experiences with students
  • Assist in field trips with elementary students when needed
  • Build intentional relationships
Counseling / Mentoring of students and staff:
  • Develop relationships with students and staff so they feel comfortable to talk about issues they are facing in their personal and spiritual lives - through impromptu hallway & drop in conversations, lunch times with students in the office and cafeteria
  • Assist in pastoral counseling duties when requested and referred by teachers and/or parents
Staff Spiritual Development:
  • Help plan and facilitate staff spiritual formation experiences throughout the year
  • Occasionally preach during staff spiritual development sessions (i.e. staff devotions)
  • Assist in and serve Communion during staff spiritual development sessions
Chapel Program Development:
  • Help plan and facilitate chapels for the elementary and junior high programs
  • Preach throughout the year during monthly elementary chapels and bi-weekly junior high chapels .
Christian Education Support:
  • Assist in teaching / facilitating other grade level bible classes as needed / requested.
Missions Support & Development:
  • Assist in the planning and carrying out of the Grade 9 missions trip, and assist elementary teachers in planning and organizing missions type experiences for students in Grades K-5
  • Assist in planning and carrying out MTO (Ministry to Others) opportunities
Pastoral Duties:
  • Assist in responding to various other needs as they arise in the GCA community (hospital visitations, tragedy, family conflict, etc.)
Qualifications
  • Able to clearly express his or her faith and relationship with Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour
  • Agrees wholeheartedly with and abides by the GCA Statement of Faith
  • In process of completing / completed a ministry or related field degree

  • Shows special charisma for work with children and youth in the areas of spiritual development
  • Passionate about leading people more fully to life in Jesus Christ
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Ability to handle confidential information

  • Proven attention to detail, organizational and documenting / tracking skills, as well as analytical problem-solving abilities

  • Self-starter who is able to set priorities and meet deadlines

Compensation

Applicants must have the right to work in Canada. Local candidates will be given preference.
