Assistant or Associate Professor in Industrial Organization or Regulatory Economics

The Department of Economics at the University of Calgary invites applications for an economist focusing on industrial organization or regulatory economics. The successful candidate will be appointed at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (with tenure). The target date for the appointment to begin is July 1, 2027.

The successful candidate must have a PhD in Economics and be positioned to enhance the Department of Economics’ recognized strengths in industrial organization. They must demonstrate a track record of producing influential research in industrial organization with applications to economic regulation and/or competition policy. They must also be willing to engage in collaborations within and beyond the University, participate in international professional networks, and actively contribute to undergraduate and graduate student teaching and supervision.

The successful candidate is expected to play a central role in the Department’s new Research Program in Competition & Regulation. This initiative brings together academics, policymakers, regulators, and industry partners to address pressing questions in the design and implementation of competition and regulatory policies of significance both in Canada and internationally.

The successful candidate at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate potential for publications in high-quality journals, prior experience in working with external research funding programs, interest in engagement with the broader competition policy and/or regulatory community, and effectiveness in teaching at the University level.

The successful candidate at the Associate Professor level must demonstrate evidence of a strong track record of publications in high-quality journals, evidence of securing ongoing external research funding, effectiveness in teaching at the University level, evidence of effective graduate student supervision or mentoring, and evidence of engagement with the broader competition policy and/or regulatory community.
