The Opportunity

ML6 is proud to partner with one of our premier clients—a thriving organization and trusted representative of Toshiba—as they look to round out their technical team with a proactive, self-starting Medium Voltage Service Technician. In this role, you will act as a true face of the company in the field, serving as a critical technical ambassador for Toshiba’s standard products across Western Canada.

This is a highly autonomous, high-impact opportunity for an intuitive technician who moves beyond a "checklist" mentality to independently troubleshoot complex issues, build genuine customer relationships, and deliver exceptional field service.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Full‑Cycle Field Service Ownership:
Lead and execute the end-to-end diagnosis, troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of Medium Voltage Adjustable Speed Drives/Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) both in-house and at diverse customer sites.
  • Strategic Technical Partnering:
Collaborate closely with clients and your service lead, conducting product inspections, performing startup and commissioning, and proposing clear, effective technical solutions to minimize critical system downtime.
  • Relationship & Rapport Building:
Move past "cookie-cutter" servicing by bringing professional maturity and an engaging communication style to customer interactions, establishing instant credibility and representing the brand with integrity in the field.
  • Immersive Project & Training Management:
Take complete ownership of your professional development and field execution. You will eagerly dive into an intensive 2‑to‑2.5‑month onboarding and factory training program—including 2–3 weeks of travel to the USA for Toshiba competency certification.
  • Process & Tech Optimization:
Act as an internal champion for documentation excellence, ensuring customer-specific reports, field requests, and expense tracking are meticulously and transparently maintained in a timely manner.
  • Talent Management Support:
Support the broader service team when not in the field by providing phone-based technical support, assisting low‑voltage technicians in the office, and maintaining a proactive pulse on upcoming project workflows to anticipate business needs.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
  • Experience:

1–4+ years of hands‑on experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial power electronics. Mandatory experience working with Medium Voltage Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs/ASDs) is required.
  • Professionalism & Polished Communication:
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. You are someone who speaks with professional maturity, demonstrates high emotional intelligence, and manages client interactions with humility, tact, and a long‑term relationship mindset.
  • Proactivity & Detail Orientation: A self‑motivated skilled who takes complete ownership of their desk and tools, independently reads manuals to grasp complex technical data, and possesses ironclad follow-through—ensuring no critical safety or technical detail slips through the cracks.
  • Adaptability & Industry IQ:
The ability to quickly grasp the nuances of diverse industrial environments, earn the trust of site managers, and comfortably navigate a dynamic service schedule that demands highly independent travel and troubleshooting.
  • Tech & Compliance Savvy:
Familiarity with contemporary diagnostic tools, industrial schematic reading, behavioral safety methodologies, and a solid understanding of field service reporting and safety compliance standards.
  • Location Flexibility:
This is a field‑heavy hybrid role based out of Calgary, AB (with an office environment of 30–35 people), requiring the flexibility to travel 50–60% of the time (8–12 days a month in 2‑to‑4‑day trips) across Western Canada, balancing field autonomy with a collaborative office routine.

Compensation Range: $95,000 - $105,000
