POSITION SUMMARY

The role of Traveling Gearbox Repair Technician directly supports the company’s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that make 100% renewable energy a reality for the world. The Traveling Gearbox Repair Technician will work as a part of the Services Resources department and will perform a variety of activities including but not limited to:
Gearbox disassembly/reassembly refurbishment, inspections, retrofits, large component repairs. This position requires a person to travel as needed for extended periods within the U.S. and Canada.

WHAT YOU’ll DO
  • Provides gearbox repairs, including but not limited to, full component replacements, bearing replacements, HSS/IMS repairs up-tower, full teardown, and refurbishment rebuilds.
  • Diagnose, analyze, and resolve issues surrounding the drivetrain.
  • Borescopes inspections and reporting.
  • Leads crane and rigging activities safely and effectively.
  • Works with Resource management to improve processes surrounding the drivetrain.
  • Utilizes specialized tooling and equipment to perform activities: SKF Mounting/Dismounting high‑pressure tooling, low‑speed shrinks disc tooling, load rigging, torque, and tension equipment.
  • Identifies potential hazards and communicates to management.
  • Follow defined instructions and schedules, execute plans as directed, and performs according to instructions from Resource management.
  • Establishes and maintains proper business relationships with customers, subcontractors, and peers, as well as performs necessary administrative duties accurately.
  • Utilizes appropriate safety gear, protective equipment, and control or dissipation of energy sources to ensure work is performed safely.
  • Maintain tools and equipment used to perform repair activities.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
WHAT YOU HAVE
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A 2-year degree in wind turbine technology or a similar field is strongly preferred.
  • 2‑5 years of field service experience preferred with operations and maintenance, troubleshooting, inspections, large component exchanges, and repairs of wind turbines.
  • Demonstrated use and understanding of power tools.
  • Able to work independently and on a team in a fast‑paced setting.
  • Ability to be certified and work with both medium and high‑voltage equipment.
  • Maintain required training certifications such as rigger/signal person certification and crane calling certification.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand drawings, schematics, instructions, and schedules.
  • Intermediate computer skills, familiarity with internet‑based programs, MS Office, and ability to generate data and reports using a computer.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Passport/ Canadian Passport to work in either location.
  • Travel to project sites as required (up to 100 % travel) in US & Canada.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally for extended periods of time and requires working overtime, including a flexible and variable work schedule as needed to meet business needs.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized for employment in the United States and will not require employer‑sponsored work authorization now or in the future for employment in the United States and must be eligible to travel to Canada.
  • Must be able to pass a pre‑employment physical administered by a medical examiner to ensure the ability to safely perform job functions and meet the physical demands of the position.
  • Ability to meet specific OSHA and ANSI weight limits of 265 lbs. or less.
  • Driving is an essential function of the job. Must possess a full valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy. This position will be subject to periodic driver’s abstract checks to confirm continued insurability.
