The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is recruiting a Summer Student to join the talented team at the Alberta Geological Survey (AGS). As a Student, Quaternary Geology, you will provide both field and office support for the Southern Alberta Groundwater Evaluation (SAGE) project. The SAGE project involves hydrogeological characterization, geological mapping and modeling of Neogene‑Quaternary sediments and Cretaceous bedrock, and regional electromagnetic geophysical surveys to improve understanding of groundwater availability and connected surface water resources.

Salary Range$26.10 – $33.22 per hour
Daily Responsibilities- Provide field assistance to AGS geologists conducting surficial geology and landscape mapping.
- Perform geomorphic interpretations using imagery resources and field data to develop surficial geology maps for Alberta in a GIS environment.
- Assist AGS staff with updating and verifying Quaternary databases as part of an ongoing review of legacy data.
- Collect data used for subsurface and hydrogeological characterization of Alberta geology.
- Compile, organize, and manage select groundwater data from various sources to support AGS staff.
- Currently enrolled in the second year or higher of a Bachelor’s degree program in Earth Science, Geology, or a related field.
- Proficient in GIS software, with solid computer skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Completion of an introductory hydrogeology course is considered an asset.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
- Self‑motivated with the capacity to work independently and manage tasks with minimal supervision.
- Proof of enrollment in a registered post‑secondary institution, including enrollment in the semester following the work term, or enrollment in a registered co‑op program, is required to be hired.
