Your future role on our team
The BBA Environmental department is seeking a Senior Environmental Specialist/Project Manager to perform environmental impact studies and manage permit and approval applications. The team handles a wide range of mandates, including biophysical assessments, biophysical, social and impact studies and approval and permit applications to develop and carry out projects in the power, energy and chemicals, and mining sectors.

Type of position: Regular

As an Environmental Specialist, project manager and team leader, you’ll oversee day‑to‑day team operations, provide regulatory guidance and work with a multidisciplinary team of project managers, environmental professionals and engineers to deliver practical solutions for clients. You’ll coordinate, plan and implement studies and regulatory applications for CAPEX and OPEX projects in Western provincial jurisdictions, as well as in central and northern Canada.

  • Lead environmental aspects of applications and reports to facilitate regulatory approvals in collaboration with project teams and/or managers
  • Liaise with clients, stakeholders, regulatory agencies and industry organizations to remain current on market trends and permitting requirements
  • Oversee the preparation of high‑quality scientific and technical reports, including regulatory submission documents
  • Lead or contribute to proposal preparation, including strategy, work plans and budgets
  • Manage and lead multidisciplinary projects, ensuring budget and schedule control, client communication, technical leadership and coordination through regulatory processes
  • Develop methodologies and prepare sampling plans and data entry protocols
  • Coordinate and participate in field surveys
  • Ensure sound team management and foster a motivating, recognition‑based work environment
  • Communicate regularly with team members, regardless of their physical location
  • Strengthen collaboration among team members, disciplines and project management
  • Promote quality work by applying the quality management system and using BBA's tools and work methods
  • Integrate new employees and supervise, advise, guide and support team members
  • Plan and conduct EDP meetings, define performance objectives, monitor progress and provide feedback
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies and internal programs
  • Collaborate with the department manager on:
    • Workforce planning, management and scheduling
    • Identifying skill gaps and training needs
    • Evaluating and monitoring career plans
    • Recruitment and hiring
    • Addressing performance or behavioural issues
    • Monitoring productivity

Summary Of Certifications And Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, geography, planning or equivalent training
  • Ten years of relevant experience in industrial projects
  • Excellent knowledge of provincial and federal regulatory frameworks
  • Experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, planning, work supervision and client liaising
  • In‑depth understanding of the power, energy and chemical industries and established industry relationships that can generate new business
  • Excellent report‑writing skills and expertise in performing environmental assessments, with strong analytical abilities
  • Autonomy, initiative, attention to detail and ability to work on a team and in a dynamic environment
  • Advanced English skills to facilitate collaboration with other BBA offices and/or clients in English‑speaking Canadian provinces and internationally
  • Asset:
    French speaking and writing knowledge
