Arcadis Canada is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Field Technician to join our Environmental Team in Canada. This position will be based out of Alberta or the prairie provinces. Travel to sites throughout region will be required, and there is an opportunity to travel across Canada.

Role

accountabilities

As an Intermediate Environmental Field Technician, you will work with Project Managers to co-ordinate and execute activities pertaining to the execution of environmental projects including data gap reviews, phase I and II environmental site assessments, and remediation projects. This role includes coordinating and conducting site visits and inspections, monitoring and supervising drilling and/or remediation activities, preparing field notes, collecting soil and groundwater samples, and writing environmental reports.

Responsibilities
  • Strong understanding of field protocols including soil, groundwater, and vapour sampling, and overseeing drilling activities and subcontractor management
  • Maintain knowledge and familiarity with provincial and federal regulatory frameworks
  • Diligent interpretation of environmental data
  • Comparison of sample results to applicable guidelines and standards
  • Preparation of reports documenting the results of investigation programs
  • Independently supervise contractors (drillers, daylighters, utility locators, etc.)

The role may include a Hazardous Building Materials assessment component, including asbestos, lead, mould, silica etc. The part of the role will include a field component and applicants can expect to be at least 65/35 field/office based, with some out-of-town travel required. Field work would include conducting hazardous building materials assessments, mould and indoor air quality investigations, developing specifications, authoring reports and asbestos management plans.

Work would also involve oversight of abatement and remediation activities, and collection of air samples for asbestos, lead, and mould.

Qualifications & Experience
  • Technical Diploma or bachelor's degree in environmental science, engineering, earth sciences, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in soil, groundwater and vapour sampling, and overseeing drilling activities and subcontractor management preferred
  • Direct experience working at contaminated sites such as industrial facilities, refineries/bulk plants/gas stations, military properties, commercial processing plants, federal government properties, airports, mines, power plants, wind farms and solar facilities
  • Registered as an E.I.T. or G.I.T. Eligibility for P.Eng. or P.Geo. considered an asset

  • Strong communication, interpersonal and writing skills; strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications

Eligibility for P.Eng. or P.Geo. considered an asset.
