Senior Reservoir Engineer

Match Box Consulting Group is seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer on behalf of a leading Canadian energy producer to join their Thermal Reservoir team in Calgary, Alberta.

Overview
This position is part of the company’s Thermal group and plays a key role in supporting field development, well optimization, and reservoir performance improvement. The ideal candidate will bring strong experience in thermal or SAGD operations, well planning, forecasting, and operating strategies.
The role has a 5 days a week in office work arrangement.
Key Responsibilities

• Lead the evaluation and development of in-situ thermal heavy oil assets
• Develop and implement reservoir management and operating strategies, including steam and NCGI allocation to optimize production and pressure performance
• Identify and execute well optimization strategies such as steam splitters, tubing cuts, FCDs, and artificial lift improvements
• Support well start-up, ramp-down, and late-life operations to maximize asset value
• Utilize analytical and simulation tools to generate short- and long-term production forecasts for wells, pads, and assets
• Ensure best practices in subsurface data management and reservoir model integration
• Collaborate across Operations, Geoscience, and Development teams to enhance performance and drive efficiency
• Contribute to regulatory applications and technical reporting as required

Qualifications

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or eligible for registration with APEGA
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in thermal/SAGD reservoir engineering
• Strong background in SAGD surveillance, field development planning, and forecasting
• Proficiency in reservoir simulation (CMG Suite)
• Skilled in data analytics and visualization tools (Tableau considered an asset)
• Innovative, self-motivated, and able to deliver results in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Legally authorized to work full-time in Canada
• Experience with VBA, Python, or R is considered a strong asset
