Working as the Asset Integrity Student/Engineer-in-Training at Trans Mountain, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a progressive group of Engineering experts. The successful candidate will become familiar with regulatory compliance in pipeline integrity and gain experience in a wide variety of integrity related areas including In-line inspection, anomaly investigation, geohazard monitoring and facility integrity.

The position is located at the Calgary Head office and has a duration of 16 months. Opportunities for field site visits will be provided to solidify learnings.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in updating Asset Integrity technical documents, procedures and standards and ensuring compliance to regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with the data collection and filing of annual performance indicator reports.
  • Assist with addressing Corrective and Preventative Action plans assigned to the Pipeline Integrity Department resulting from recent Internal Audits;
  • Assist engineers in completion of anomaly investigation tasks such as QA/QC of non-destructive examination (NDE) reports;
  • Assist with class location change management, including the following:
    • Gathering pipeline datasets required for hydraulic assessments.
    • Assisting in gathering regulatory filing requirements for areas of class location change.
    • Assisting the Engineer in the regulatory filing of reportable class location changes.
  • Assist the Risk Engineer in the QA/QC of in‑line inspection tool data, field dig information, and other pipeline integrity data prior to loading into the risk database.
  • Assist the in‑line inspection team with the planning of in‑line inspection tool runs.
  • Archive field coating evaluation reports.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
  • Currently working towards a post‑secondary institute degree, in your 3rd year of your Mechanical, Chemical, Civil, Petroleum or other Engineering OR New Engineering graduate or Engineer‑in‑training (EIT).
  • Enrolled Co‑op students can apply for this posting and receive relevant credit to their institution's Co‑op Program.
  • Self‑motivated, capable of performing tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to take on tasks proactively.
  • Technical understanding of pipelines would be an asset.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite of software (ex., Outlook/Word/Excel/SharePoint/Teams).
  • Must be a team player with a positive attitude.
  • Able to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
