Description:
As a Senior Process Engineer, you will support our growing Water Treatment Team. You will be working on strategic water infrastructure projects in industrial water treatment within the resource sector across North America. We are specifically seeking people who are passionate about water treatment in mining and other industrial applications. Your focus will be supporting our mining water treatment projects and will also have exposure to our global water treatment portfolio.
Your experience in the industry and/or consulting, as well as your project and people skills will enable you to make a difference in our industry and inspire new and better ways to implement engineering and water management solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Work in a small to large sized teams and projects of various sizes and complexities with water and wastewater treatment as central concepts.
- Conduct process engineering designs from conceptual design through to detailed design, focusing on hard-rock mining water management, treatment, reuse and environmental discharge systems, as well as other industrial water treatment applications.
- Independently lead teams conducting conceptual, feasibility, preliminary and detailed engineering of complex industrial water/wastewater treatment projects, including turn-key infrastructure projects.
- Lead teams and/or independently develop engineering deliverables including but not limited to: process and instrumentation diagrams, heat and material balances, process flow diagrams, design basis, equipment layouts, simulations, control narratives, cause and effect matrices, hydraulic analysis, equipment sizing (including process equipment, vessels/tanks, pumps, control valves, etc.), as well as generating reports and studies.
- Conduct, lead and/or participate in risk reviews, design reviews, HAZOP, model reviews, inter-discipline reviews and squad checks, technical bid evaluations, and approvals of vendor packages.
- Undertake and oversee detailed water quality data characterization and analysis.
- Work within established regulatory frameworks to meet requirements for water management, treatment and discharge.
- Work within established engineering standards such as API, ASME, CSA and other industry related codes.
- Oversee and manage water treatment systems fabrication and construction both onsite and in the field, as required.
- Foster critical relationships with clients, technical and non-technical staff, government representatives, and technology suppliers.
- Support in writing proposals in sole-sourced and competitive bid environments.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemical or process engineering (or equivalent) from a recognized University (master’s or other graduate degree would be considered an asset).
- 10+ years applicable process engineering experience in North American industrial water treatment, mining and other process industries.
- Registration with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) and/or Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia (EGBC) or other Canadian jurisdiction in good standing. Licensure in other North American jurisdictions is considered an asset.
- Excellent English communication skills, and experience in preparing and reviewing technical reports. Professional proficiency in Spanish, French or other languages is considered an asset.
- Proven leadership and communication skills, with strong client communication skills
- Legally able to work in Canada/United States.
- Design experience of water treatment technologies and practices for treatment, recycling and reuse for industrial applications.
- Experience in designing various water treatment technologies including but not limited to: biological wastewater treatment, metal precipitation, clarification, dissolved air flotation, reactive media filtration, ion exchange, membrane filtration, electro deionization.
- Experience with hard-rock mining water management and reuse systems, as well as other industrial wastewater applications.

- Business development skills and client base and contacts in North American across sectors are an asset.
- A thorough understanding of aqueous water chemistry and ability to solve complex chemistry challenges.
- Experience with treatment of produced water and blowdown from upstream and midstream oil and gas, refinery, pulp and paper and similar industrial wastewater sources is considered an asset.
- Ability to work under own initiative to meet deadlines and manage priorities.
- Experience with OLI Software and other aqueous chemistry software/projection tools is an asset.
- Experience with managing water treatment systems fabrication and construction is considered an asset.
- Strong understanding of available water treatment technologies and practices for treatment, recycling and reuse for industrial and municipal applications.
