To meet our growth challenges, WSP is currently seeking a Senior Substation Physical Design Engineer to join our National Power Delivery Team, located in one of our offices in Alberta
. We are also open to candidates based out of our offices in Saskatchewan or British Columbia.

Join WSP as a Senior Substation Physical Design Engineer and help power the future!

In this role, you’ll take on challenging and impactful projects, leading the electrical design of electric substations for medium and high-voltage utility systems and renewable energy interconnections. You’ll apply industry codes and standards to create innovative, reliable solutions—producing physical layouts, plan and elevation views, grounding, conduit and cable trough plans, and detailed construction documents. From equipment specifications to bills of materials, your work will set the foundation for safe and efficient energy systems.

• Perform and direct others in the detailed design of medium to extra high voltage utility substations.

• One-line diagrams, conduit and cable sizing/routing, substation physical layouts, general arrangements, elevation views, grounding design, lightning design and calculations, developing design criteria document, selection of substation equipment, writing of substation equipment specifications, proposal development, construction cost estimates, and project scheduling.

• Occasional travel will be required.

• Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, from an accredited university.

• Must have Professional license (P.Eng) or P.L. (Eng.) or ability to obtain within 6 months.

• Ten (10) or more years experience in utility substation design as outlined below.

• Strong experience with 15kV through 240kV substation design and IEEE/ANSI standards.
