The Role

Are you ready to make a measurable impact? As a Measurement Technologist, you’ll troubleshoot and maintain advanced electronic and pneumatic systems for meter provers, ensuring seamless integration and compatibility for new meters. You’ll lead quality assurance planning, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives, all while staying compliant with industry regulations. In this role, you’ll provide mentorship, technical guidance, and skills development to internal teams, driving excellence and supporting the objectives of both the department and the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Take charge of meter acceptance and compliance initiatives, ensuring measurement accuracy and regulatory standards are met across all operations.
  • Develop, test, and implement enhancements for meter systems and equipment, evaluating new technologies for integration into our fleet.
  • Work closely with external meter shops, labs, and manufacturers to advance testing and maintain industry-leading practices.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and quality inspections, ensuring all projects meet company safety, environmental, and quality guidelines.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to internal teams, fostering skill development and a collaborative work environment.
  • Act as a liaison with manufacturers, suppliers, and regulatory representatives to evaluate new products and procedures, keeping our operations innovative and compliant.
What You Bring
  • Diploma in Instrumentation, Electronics, or related field from a two‑year technology program with a recognized technical institute.
  • Eligible to be recognized by the Association of Science and Engineering Technology (ASET) as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET).
  • Experience with natural gas measurement equipment and testing criteria is required.

    Must be able to successfully complete Quality Assurance Certification Course as identified by ATCO.
  • Working knowledge of microprocessor and mechanical based systems with the ability to troubleshoot and repair.
  • Proficiency with company‑based technology and Microsoft Products along with ability to learn and adapt as changes occur.
  • Experience in computer scripting and automation would be an asset.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills, decision‑making skills, and a strong work ethic.
  • Sound judgment, self‑initiative and the ability to work alone and support and guide others.
  • Knowledge of the Electricity and Gas Inspections Act and Regulations would be an asset.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and dexterity in the use of tools and equipment.
  • Familiarity with various regulatory codes governing the natural gas industry.
  • Comfortable working around high‑pressure natural gas systems and committed to following all safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
  • Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s license with a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Required to travel throughout the ATCO Natural Gas service area territory to perform assigned duties and stay out of town as required.
  • Ability to complete pre‑employment conditions such as background check and alcohol and drug screening.
