The Engineering Supervisor reports to the Engineering Manager and plays a key leadership role within the Engineering Department. This position is responsible for driving continuous design improvements across assigned Data Center cooling products while ensuring alignment with manufacturing, quality, and customer requirements. The Engineering Supervisor provides day‑to‑day leadership for a team of designers and engineers, guiding their work, development, and overall performance.
Key Responsibilities- Lead sustaining engineering activities for assigned Data Center Cooling Systems, with emphasis on new plant launches, continuous design improvements, DFMA, and VA/VE cost‑reduction initiatives.
- Manage a team of 2–3 engineers and 1–2 CAD designers, including project assignment, workload balancing, performance guidance, and team success metrics.
- Release updated designs and drawings for production as part of sustaining engineering initiatives.
- Support new plant launches by developing RFQ design packages, conducting supplier technical assessments, and overseeing product approvals.
- Partner closely with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to implement design enhancements that improve quality, manufacturability, and cost efficiency.
- Collaborate with Product Engineering to ensure all design changes meet customer needs, product requirements, and validation standards.
- Lead preliminary design work for cost estimating and quoting related to VA/VE pursuits, including NRE estimates, validation costs, and material should‑cost analysis.
- Coordinate with global Modine teams, manufacturing sites, suppliers, and customers as needed.
- Assist Manufacturing in developing and refining production processes, including modifications to equipment, assembly methods, and tooling.
- Support team growth through training, mentorship, and performance development, fostering a culture of continuous learning.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline and 5+ years of engineering experience; OR
- Master’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline and 3+ years of engineering experience.
- Strong foundation in HVAC technologies and DFMA principles.
- 2+ years of engineering leadership or supervisory experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and HVAC systems.
- Experience designing products for manufacturing and assembly.
- Ability to work effectively with internal teams and external partners.
- Proven project management capability.
- High initiative, strong work ethic, and effective organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD tools and ability to interpret FEA and CFD data.
