Trans Mountain is seeking a collaborative, motivated, and values driven individual to join our dynamic team as an Environmental Inspector. In this position, you will play a key role in inspecting, verifying, documenting, and reporting on contractor compliance with project environmental requirements, approvals, permits, and commitments to regulators and stakeholders throughout construction. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong knowledge of environmental legislation, mitigation practices, and construction monitoring, along with the ability to work collaboratively with contractors, Indigenous Monitors, and resource specialists in a field-based environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect, verify, and report on GCC/EPC compliance with the Project environmental requirements.
  • Document environmental compliance and environmental activities daily and maintain a photographic record through submission of a Daily Environmental Inspection Report.
  • Inspect the mitigation implemented in the field to verify it is timely, effective, appropriate, and is in line with the Project environmental requirements.
  • Inform the Lead EI and GCC/EPC daily of environmental events or deficiencies, including non‑compliances.
  • Work collaboratively with the GCC/EPC team to maintain compliance with the Project environmental requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with IMs, Resource Specialists and Contractor to provide feedback to Contractor on and accept Contractor proposed mitigation strategies and environmental action plans.
  • Notify the Lead EI or Major Projects Construction Representative, or designate, when potential non‑compliances have been observed, and assist the TMEP Construction Representative in deciding to either modify the work practice or shut the activity down until conditions improve.
  • Inspect work areas and activities ahead of construction, noting concerns, site‑specific issues, and site conditions, and provide advance notice to the Construction Manager/Project Manager, associated Craft Inspectors, and Contractor Environmental Coordinators to allow proactive planning of the work to avoid adverse environmental effects.
  • Consult with the Construction Manager/Project Manager, Environmental Construction Analyst and Environmental Field Coordinator, as needed, during review of GCC/EPC environmental action plans and implementation of Contingency Plans or non‑standard mitigation strategies in the field, and corrective action plans.
  • Review, and accept as required, Major Projects and GCC/EPC environmental reports, incident reports, Contractor environmental action plans and corrective action plans.
  • Provide advice on decisions or courses of action to deal with unexpected environmental matters.
  • Prepare, collect, organize and communicate environmentally related information and documentation that arises during construction through Daily EI Reports.
  • Support internal and external reporting, as required.
  • Support regulatory field inspections, and follow‑up reporting, as required.
  • Read and understand the Environmental Reference Documents.
Qualifications and Professional Experience
  • Discipline technology diploma or certification, university degree preferred, or relevant experience.
  • 3‑7 years of progressive experience of industry environmental management experience and environmental inspection experience or equivalent, with preference to pipeline construction or linear infrastructure experience.
  • PCST / CSTS / CSO training.
  • CMSTQ Job‑Specific Requirements (as required by regulation or hazard, not position specific—e.g., ATV Training, Fall Protection Training, Confined Space Training, etc.).
  • Ground Disturbance Level II.
  • Fall Protection – User (For facilities only).
  • H2S Alive with Respiratory Equipment Fit Test (For facilities only).
  • Confined Space Entry with Gas Monitoring.
  • A track record of delivering high‑quality work, managing competing priorities, and supporting key business processes or operational functions.
