Senior Electrical Reliability Specialist – Motors & Rotating Equipment
Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Reliability Specialist with deep expertise in electric motor systems, diagnostics, and rotating equipment reliability
.
In this senior-level role, you will lead the development and execution of electrical reliability programs
, with a focus on improving asset performance, minimizing downtime, and delivering advanced technical insights across industrial operations.
You will act as a technical authority and mentor
, working closely with field teams, engineers, and clients to diagnose complex issues and implement long-term reliability solutions. This role also plays a key part in standardizing practices, building technical frameworks, and strengthening organizational capability across reliability programs.
Technical Expertise & Diagnostics
- Perform advanced assessment and diagnostics on:
- AC/DC motors
- VFD-driven systems
- Critical rotating equipment
- Execute electrical testing using specialized tools (e.g., Megger®, PdMA MCE, multimeters)
- Apply advanced diagnostic techniques, including:
- Electrical Signature Analysis (ESA)
- Current signature analysis
- Vibration analysis (electrical fault focus)
- Rotor bar and air gap analysis
- Surge and partial discharge testing
- Insulation resistance testing
- Diagnose failures related to:
- Stator and rotor faults
- Eccentricity and imbalance
- Misalignment and soft foot
- Power quality and harmonics
- Motor control and VFD systems
- Develop and enhance motor reliability and asset health programs
, including:- Condition-based monitoring (CBM) strategies
- Predictive maintenance plans
- Fleet health assessments and criticality analysis
- Lead Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) for motors and electrical system failures
- Establish and standardize testing procedures, reporting frameworks, and best practices
- Drive continuous improvement in installation, commissioning, alignment, and maintenance practices
- Analyze electrical system documentation, including:
- Single-line diagrams
- Wiring and control schematics
- Protection and relay coordination schemes
- Support commissioning, tuning, and troubleshooting of:
- VFDs and soft starters
- Motor Control Centers (MCCs)
- Protection relays and control systems
- Evaluate system performance under various load and fault conditions
- Partner with customers to improve system performance and reliability outcomes
- Provide detailed technical reports, including:
- Testing results
- Asset condition insights
- Actionable recommendations
- Support field teams during shutdowns, turnarounds, and critical maintenance activities
- Champion a strong safety culture, adhering to:
- LOTO procedures
- Arc flash standards
- CSA, IEEE, NETA, NFPA, and NEMA guidelines
- Ensure all work meets regulatory and industry standards
Education & Certifications
- Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
- Trade certification (e.g.,
Journeyman Electrician or Power System Electrician
) is an asset - Relevant certifications are highly valued, such as:
- NETA Level II–IV
- Motor diagnostics (PdMA, IRIS, etc.)
- Vibration Analysis (Category I–II)
- Reliability or maintenance certifications
- Minimum 5+ years of experience in industrial electrical reliability and motor diagnostics
- Hands‑on experience with:
- Motor circuit analysis tools (e.g., PdMA)
- Electrical signature analysis systems
- Experience with VFD systems, harmonics, and power quality impacts
- Proven ability to lead initiatives and mentor technical teams
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting capabilities in complex environments
- High attention to detail and technical documentation standards
- Excellent communication and customer engagement skills
- Self-driven with strong initiative and ownership mindset
- Ability to collaborate effectively while also working independently
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Willingness to travel and work in industrial environments and varying site conditions
- Commitment to safety, integrity, and technical excellence
- Ability to translate complex technical issues into clear, practical solutions
- Passion for continuous improvement and knowledge sharing
