DescriptionEquinox Engineering Ltd. is a Calgary-based EPCM firm and a recognized leader in oil and gas facility design. We deliver engineering solutions across natural gas, conventional oil, heavy oil, SAGD, and pipeline projects for many of the largest producers in Canada and internationally.
We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer with strong technical expertise and leadership capability to guide mechanical design and execution across a diverse portfolio of energy projects. This role offers the opportunity to lead the mechanical team in a multidisciplinary environment, mentor engineers, and play a key role in delivering high-quality, safe, and reliable facilities from concept through execution.

As the Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will own the mechanical engineering scope, schedule, budget and coordination on assigned projects and ensure technical quality and execution excellence.
Technical Leadership
- Establish design criteria and oversee preparation of specifications, calculations, drawings, models, and bills of material
- Specify, evaluate, and select mechanical equipment including packages, pressure vessels, pumps, compressors, and heat exchangers
- Check and approve mechanical deliverables produced by team members
- Ensure consistency and technical integrity of mechanical designs in accordance with applicable codes, standards and project requirements
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Lead mechanical engineering activities across all project phases including conceptual design, FEED, and detailed engineering, with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, quality, and overall project delivery
- Lead and supervise mechanical engineers, designers and EITs on project teams
- Coordinate with process, piping, electrical, instrumentation, automation and civil/structural disciplines to deliver integrated designs
- Interface with project team, clients, and vendors to define scope, resolve technical issues, and support procurement processes
Project Execution & Vendor Coordination
- Prepare mechanical scopes of work and technical packages for vendor procurement
- Interface and collaborate with vendors in the procurement of mechanical equipment
Review and approve vendor drawings and data to ensure technical accuracy and compliance with specifications - Monitor and manage mechanical deliverables, schedules and budgets to support overall project execution
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure mechanical work adheres to the Equinox quality standards
- Ensure designs comply with applicable codes and regulatory requirements including:
- ABSA
- AER
- OHS
- Provide technical expertise in one or more of the following
- ASME Section VIII (Pressure Vessels)
- API (Pumps, Compressors) CSA (Pressure Equipment, etc.)
- TEMA (Heat Exchangers)
- ASME B31.3 (Process Piping)
- Apply NACE standards where required
You are a technically strong mechanical engineer with proven leadership experience in an EPCM environment. You bring:
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 12–15 years of EPCM experience on oil and gas projects with significant experience in a lead role
- Experience in planning and managing the scope, schedule, budget and coordination of project-based work
- Strong experience with package engineering with a background in static and/or rotating equipment
- Experience supporting conventional oil, heavy oil, SAGD, and/or sweet/sour gas projects
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a proven ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams
- A detail, solutions-oriented, and quality-driven approach to engineering delivery
