Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

A well-established and growing consulting engineering firm in Calgary is looking to add a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to their team. This opportunity is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing technical involvement with leadership responsibilities and is looking to play a key role in both project delivery and client relationships.

The firm has built a strong reputation within the building consulting space through long-standing client partnerships and a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, institutional, and mixed‑use projects. They are known for their collaborative environment, entrepreneurial culture, and strong pipeline of work across Western Canada.

This role offers the opportunity to take on a leadership position while remaining hands‑on technically. The successful candidate will oversee projects and mentor junior/intermediate staff, while continuing to contribute directly to mechanical system design and technical coordination.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and coordination of HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical building systems across a variety of project types
  • Oversee projects from conceptual design through construction administration and close‑out
  • Maintain strong client relationships and participate in meetings, presentations, and project discussions
  • Mentor and support junior and intermediate designers/engineers
  • Review drawings, calculations, specifications, and technical documentation for quality and code compliance
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including architectural, structural, electrical, and contractor groups
  • Participate in site reviews, construction meetings, and technical problem‑solving during project execution
  • Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and overall team/project leadership
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • P.Eng designation (APEGA or eligible)
  • 8+ years of experience within consulting engineering/building design
  • Strong experience designing HVAC and plumbing systems for commercial, institutional, residential, or mixed‑use projects
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD, Revit, and industry‑standard design software
  • Strong communication and client‑facing abilities
  • Leadership mindset with interest in mentoring and team development
