Senior Municipal Engineer
Overview
As a key member of our Municipal Infrastructure Group in the Engineering, Design and Project Management Division for Western Canada, you will thrive in a dynamic, team-oriented environment. As a Senior Municipal Engineer, you will lead and manage the delivery of civil & utility project design from conception to detailed design and construction stages. You will oversee all civil engineering aspects of the project, ensuring that design deliverables meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and functionality.
This role requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership to successfully deliver the civil design components within the specified timeframe and budget.
- Develop, oversee, and manage detailed civil and utilities engineering designs, drawings and analysis for the civil infrastructure from preliminary concepts, specifications, bid documents and engineering directives with a focus on municipal clients, ensuring adherence to project deadlines, budgets, and quality standards within the Greater Calgary Area.
- Manage the design package delivery and conduct regular project review meetings, provide guidance and support to team members, and ensure QA/QC processes are followed throughout the project.
- Ensure QA/QC and compliance while following project budgets and timelines.
- Complete civil & utilities designs within a team consisting of engineers, engineering interns and CAD technicians in the planning, execution, and management of civil, property, utilities and drainage design packages.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineers, designers, and construction personnel, to ensure seamless project delivery and compliance with design specifications.
- Act as the primary point of contact for municipal clients, maintaining strong relationships and communication throughout project life cycles.
- Provide mentorship and coaching to junior staff, fostering professional development and team collaboration.
- Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from a recognized institution.
- Registered as a Professional Engineer (P. Eng) with APEGA.
- Minimum of 20 years of experience in civil engineering, with a focus on civil municipal & utility design.
- Experience in developing and maintaining project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation.
- Experience in attending and representing the civil design team in project meetings, workshops, and presentations.
- Proven track record of successfully managing civil design components of large‑scale infrastructure projects, from conception through to completion.
- Strong understanding of municipal design and construction standards and guidelines in Alberta, construction specifications and regulations, and familiarity with municipal and provincial clients and approving agencies.
- Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and MS Project.
- Project management experience would be an asset.
- Thorough understanding of the importance of health and safety.
- Valid Driver's License is required.
