Project Manager – Water & Wastewater

Location:

Calgary, Alberta

Responsibilities
  • Provides overall contract administration, technical expertise and support for water/wastewater projects, including treatment plants, pumping stations, reservoirs, conveyance systems, and related civil works.
  • Develops and implements the project safety plan for water/wastewater projects, leading by example in health and safety practices.
  • Ensures water/wastewater projects are constructed per design, budget, resources, quality and schedule.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of client and regulatory drivers in the water/wastewater sector, and proactively identifies value engineering solutions that enhance functionality, performance, cost and schedule outcomes.
  • Manages project performance and provides status reports on safety, cost forecasts and schedules, with clear communication tailored to public-sector and utility stakeholders.
  • Negotiates, awards and administers subcontracts, major purchase orders and long‑lead process components, and monitors subcontractor performance and compliance with contract requirements.
  • Understands, communicates and enforces contract terms, technical specifications, drawings and regulatory obligations, including those specific to water/wastewater treatment, environmental compliance, and commissioning.
  • Leads project closeout activities, including system turnover, documentation, training, deficiency resolution, and support of commissioning and start‑up activities for water/wastewater facilities.
  • Identifies and manages project risks and opportunities, with a strong focus on quality, regulatory approvals, system integration and interface risks typical of water/wastewater projects.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in engineering, construction management or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive construction experience, with demonstrated leadership on complex infrastructure projects;
    direct experience delivering water and/or wastewater projects is required.
  • Leadership or mentoring experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementing a strong safety culture through health, safety and environment principles and legislation.
  • In-depth knowledge of the water/wastewater industry, including treatment processes and systems, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation integration, applicable codes, standards, environmental regulations and permitting requirements, and quality management practices.
  • Strong planning, organizational and time management skills, including the ability to manage project budgets and schedules on water/wastewater projects.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks and opportunities specific to water/wastewater construction projects.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders and decision‑makers.
  • A strong aptitude for adopting new technology.
