Position Summary
CCIC Canada Inc. is looking for a qualified, independent Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) specializing in Well Logging for an immediate contract hire. Due to active project demands, the successful contractor must already reside in Alberta and be fully equipped to begin client site travel right away.
When not deployed to field sites, the contractor will work remotely. Core immediate priorities include accelerating import/export regulatory applications to transfer specialized radioactive sources from clients in China to Canada, alongside updating corporate radiation protection frameworks.
Regulatory & Import/Export Compliance
International Import/Export Processing:
Draft, compile, and submit CNSC export/import applications to legally transfer downhole radioactive sources from China to Canadian operations.
Regulatory Liaison:
Act as the primary, authorized point of contact for the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and related federal or provincial oversight bodies.
Licensing & Reporting:
Coordinate, track, and maintain all active corporate nuclear substance licenses and submit annual compliance reports.
Program Development & Administration
Procedure Design:
Author, refine, and enforce specialized corporate radiation safety manuals, field manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Exposure Monitoring:
Track, review, and archive National Dosimetry Services (NDS) records and personal badge exposure histories for all field staff.
Document Integrity:
Maintain a centralized, audit-ready database of leak tests, equipment calibrations, inventory source tracking logs, and training certifications.
On-Site Field Operations
Field Inspections:
Conduct rigorous site safety audits, risk assessments, and surface radiation surveys at remote well logging pads.
Material Lifecycle Management:
Oversee the safe deployment, physical handling, secure job-site storage, and public road transport (Class 7 Hazmat) of sealed logging sources.
Emergency Response Management:
Maintain immediate stop-work authority and command field mitigation protocols if a source becomes stuck downhole or compromised.
Required Technical Qualifications
Availability:
Must be available for an immediate start with no long-term notice period constraints.
Residency Requirement:
Must be a current resident of Alberta, holding a valid driver’s license and clean abstract for travel to remote rig locations.
RSO Certification:
Active, formal Radiation Safety Officer certification with specialized training explicitly covering CNSC Use Type 816 (Well Logging) or NUREG-1556 Vol. 14 standards.
Industrial
Experience:
Minimum 2–5 years of active field experience as a wireline supervisor, logging engineer, or specialized technician.
Regulatory Literacy:
Proven experience navigating international hazardous cargo logistics, customs clearances, or cross-border radioactive material transport regulations.
