The Piping Designer role is a full‑time position. In this role, the Piping Designer will support the drafting team and broader project group by coordinating drafting activities, producing piping design packages, and ensuring deliverables meet project and construction requirements. The Piping Designer will work closely with engineering and construction personnel to develop accurate and complete drawing packages for a variety of facilities.
Job Responsibilities
Coordination of Projects:
Coordinate drafting tasks assigned to the drafting team to ensure projects are completed on time and meet quality standards.
Assign work appropriately based on skill level and support the development of team members through progressive task allocation.
Production of Drawing Packages:
Develop complete piping drawing packages using engineering inputs.
Prepare layouts and detailed drawings for various facility types using AutoCAD and CADWorx.
As‑Building:
Complete as‑building of finished projects based on QC mark‑ups, sketches, and field data to reflect final constructed conditions.
Lead as‑building efforts and participate in field trips to gather required information.
Estimating:
Prepare and manage estimates for drafting and design tasks associated with assigned projects.
Mentorship:
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior and intermediate drafters.
Support skill development and adherence to drafting standards within the team.
Field Work:
Participate in field trips, which are typically a few days and less frequently a few weeks, while assisting in gathering information from existing facilities.
Qualifications
Post‑secondary design drafting diploma preferred.
A two‑year program spanning both design principles and good drafting procedures for relaying of the mechanical design of a construction package. The program should leave the student with a complete understanding in both AutoCAD and mechanical design principles.
Extensive Mechanical experience and an AutoCAD certificate.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Strong analytical and organizational skills.
Strong interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team‑oriented attitude.
A minimum of 3 to 5 years of EPCM, energy, transmission pipeline, and/or petrochemical industry experience is required.
