Overview

As an HV Underground Transmission Engineer, you will work closely with regional and global transmission and cable experts to support and/or lead ongoing projects, and contribute to business development and proposal support with renewable developers, transmission owners, developers, and utilities.

Responsibilities

Develop HV/EHV cabling systems specifications, concept/detailed design, design review, estimation, site supervision, and support as required.

Provide technical support to the team on all aspects of HV cable system engineering and design.

Prepare cabling route specifications, reports, and progress reports.

Confirm correct and accurate interface with other engineering functions involved in the projects.

Attend and conduct internal and external meetings with colleagues, clients, and subcontractors.

Support factory inspections (FAT).

Perform technical calculations including cable size, rating calculations, electromechanical and thermomechanical forces, EMF calculations, and health‑induced voltage calculations.

Perform design reviews and verification of design.

Ensure drawings and specification documents contain sufficient, accurate information for construction of the works and request missing information in sufficient time to avoid delays.

Confirm that inspection and test plans are completed as required by the specifications, including dimension accuracy and quality checks.

Primary Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, Mechanical or related engineering discipline from a recognized institution. Master’s degree is preferred.

Minimum 8 years of direct experience with underground and/or subsea cable design and installation.

Proficiency with cable design software such as CYMCAP.

Knowledge of applicable industry standards such as IEC, IEEE and CIGRE.

Experience working with major global cable OEMs.

Willingness to travel within North America.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with HVDC and subsea cable technologies.

Professional Engineer (PE or PEng) license or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Active or ongoing involvement in power cable related working groups and standards committees such as ICC or CIGRE.
