Materials Testing Technician (Co-op) – Calgary, AB
In this role, you will be part of the Materials Testing team based in the Calgary office and have the opportunity to work with a great team. You will work closely with laboratory and field technicians, dispatchers, project coordinators, project engineers/managers, and a discipline manager to conduct materials quality assurance/control testing and reporting in both the field and laboratory for projects mainly in and around, but not limited to, the Lower Mainland area.
The successful candidate will spend time both in the field on project sites and in the laboratory conducting materials testing, with further responsibilities assigned depending on level of experience and proficiency.

Responsibilities- Laboratory work such as testing concrete cylinders, grain size analysis, Proctor tests, asphalt tests, geotechnical index testing, etc.
- Executing on‑site concrete tests which includes casting cylinders, slump test, and air content tests.
- Collecting soil and asphalt samples on site.
- In‑place density testing using a nuclear densometer (dependent on proficiency with lab and concrete testing).
- Carry out asphalt and concrete coring.
- Pull‑out testing of installed rebar dowels or anchors.
- Problem solving of project site issues.
- Attend staff and project meetings when requested.
- Interaction with clients and contractors to provide excellent service and a quick response to their testing needs.
- Enrolled in a Civil Engineering Technology diploma program or an appropriate Civil or Materials Engineering bachelor’s degree.
- Experience or exposure to concrete, asphalt, and soil testing is an asset.
- Available for a minimum of 8‑month co‑op term.
- Comfortable working safely in the field on active construction sites.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with a wide range of coworkers and clients.
- Valid Canadian driver’s license.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Able to manage multiple projects at once, stay organized, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing schedules and priorities.
The hourly range for this role is between $21 – $22. The actual compensation package is based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, certifications, and specific work location.
