The Role

The Process Engineer provides engineering solutions in support of the capital growth program and the optimization of existing process at Gibson Energy’s tank, pump, and pipeline assets. This role promotes “right‑sized” engineering design and operational reliability through process engineering design principles and expertise.

What You Will Do
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to operations and engineering teams, addressing process‑related issues, deviations, and incidents for Gibson’s tanks, pumps, and pipelines.
  • Ensure that locally‑initiated facility optimizations and modifications are completed with sound engineering principles.
  • Ensure that maximum benefit is obtained from process or operational changes without negatively impacting safety or operability.
  • Identify, develop, and recommend scopes of work to improve facility performance in terms of reliability, safety, environmental performance, efficiency, and/or net revenue.
  • Participate in Process Safety‑related analyses (i.e. PHA/HAZOP, LOPA, etc.) for projects and operations reviews and provide engineering support to closure of related action items.
  • Evaluate project designs and review statements of requirements and design drawings.
  • Provide safe design and risk management input throughout the project management stages.
  • Develop and/or check process calculations (line sizing, relief cases, NPSH, etc.).
  • Ensure regulatory compliance for all engineering activities performed.
  • Develop and foster strong, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable EH&S programs and ensure safe operation of the branch, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.

What You'll Bring To

The Role
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical or Petroleum Engineering and current APEGA or APEGS membership as a practicing member (P.Eng.) in good standing.
  • Minimum 5 years of process engineering experience in support of the operation of major crude oil terminals and pipelines or similar facilities.
  • Working knowledge of relevant design guidelines (API, AER, Saskatchewan MER, etc.) and other technical regulations and standards (ASME, CSA, etc.).
  • Pragmatic and solutions‑oriented, balancing engineering rigor with operational realities.
  • Ability to make effective decisions as necessary and take a leadership role in solving process engineering problems.
  • Ability to manage and troubleshoot a broad spectrum of technical issues.
  • Demonstrates effective time management and stakeholder engagement.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Exhibits innovation when developing and evaluating alternate solutions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with functional and operating areas.
  • Field office and/or project management experience will be considered an asset.
  • Represents and promotes the company in a responsible, positive, and professional manner.
Working Conditions
  • Travel may be required up to 10% of the time (as needed per project).
  • The majority of work is performed in an office environment. When employees are outside of the office, they must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the company's safety policies and as required for weather conditions.
