Senior Tailings & Mine Waste Engineer

In this senior leadership role, you’ll guide complex mine waste projects, influence sustainable outcomes, and mentor the next generation of engineers—delivering solutions that matter to communities and the environment.
Your Impact- Design and evaluate tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, and integrated water management systems with safety and sustainability at the forefront
- Lead geotechnical and hydrogeological investigations to support critical project and business decisions
- Provide strategic input into permitting, environmental planning, and risk management frameworks
- Oversee projects from concept through execution, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across Canada and globally
- Mentor and develop junior and intermediate engineers, fostering technical excellence and career growth
- Champion innovative mine waste management strategies and sustainable mining practices
- Build trusted client relationships and support business development initiatives
- Represent WSP in client engagements, regulatory discussions, and industry forums
- 10–15 years of progressive experience in mine waste, tailings, or geotechnical engineering
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Geological Engineering
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation in Canada
- Demonstrated expertise in tailings dam design, closure planning, and risk‑based decision‑making
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and delivering complex, multidisciplinary projects
- Strong understanding of permitting, environmental, and regulatory processes in the mining sector
- A passion for mentorship, innovation, and advancing sustainable engineering solutions

AB, BC, NT, NU, SK & YT: $135,200 – $179,100
MB & ON: $123,300 – $169,800
NB, NL, NS, PE & QC: $122,100 – $162,200
