About the role

DNV Energy Systems is seeking a Senior Resource Integration (RI) Engineer in the Renewables & Power Grids group. The RI Engineer will deliver creative, cost‑effective solutions across power generation, transmission, distribution, and high‑capacity loads. The role combines technical expertise, commercial project management, and customer service to drive growth of the Power Systems Advisory business in North America.

Location

The position is based at our DNV office in Toronto, Montreal or Calgary, with a hybrid schedule that typically involves three days per week in an office or client site.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform steady‑state, dynamic, short‑circuit and PSCAD model development for renewable and conventional generation resources (Solar, Storage, Wind, Gas turbines).
  • Lead and advance studies in power flow, transient stability, short‑circuit, electromagnetic transients (EMT), harmonics, techno‑economics, and related areas for transmission, distribution, load and generator applications.
  • Develop and troubleshoot scripts throughout the study process to ensure high‑quality, timely deliverables and minimize rework.
  • Collaborate with team members to interpret study requirements, including technical and commercial items such as billable hours.
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert on grid reliability and energy markets.
  • Conduct generator interconnection studies, evaluating system impact, feasibility, and deliverability per ISO/RTO requirements and methodology.
  • Guide and mentor team members on generation, transmission, interconnection, customer and load modeling principles.
  • Attend industry stakeholder meetings, staying current on market developments and policy changes.
  • Contribute to research and innovation, developing new techniques and analytical tools that enhance team efficiency and capability.
  • Cultivate new customer relationships and support RFP/SOQ preparation for new bid opportunities.

Benefits vary based on position, tenure, location, and employee election.

For Vancouver and Toronto: compensation range is $120,000–$175,000.

About You – Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience, including:
    • Deep understanding of electric power systems fundamentals and renewable energy.
    • Hands‑on experience with PSS/E, TARA, PSLF, Power‑world and PSCAD.
    • Direct work in transmission/distribution planning and resource interconnection studies.
    • Knowledge of North American RTO/ISO grid interconnection, planning practices, NERC standards, and ISO/RTO resource integration requirements.
  • Ability to work in a dynamic team environment and collaborate with clients on project schedules, budgets and deliverables.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English; service to clients in Quebec, the rest of Canada and the United States is required.
