As a Pipeline Engineer for our Conventional Upstream Oil and Gas operations, you will manage numerous new pipeline projects (typically 3” to 12”), pipeline integrity maintenance and well site facilities construction projects while interfacing with multi-discipline and multi-functional teams both in the office and in the field. The key individual will have experience with a large or smaller upstream producer, or with an engineering firm that has delivered similar projects.

Leveraging a strong technical foundation and well‑developed interpersonal skills, you will be accountable for initiating and delivering projects safely, accurately, cost‑effectively, and on schedule, while ensuring full compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements. As Canadian Natural operates across Western Canada—British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba—you will be expected to maintain a comprehensive understanding of the regulations and regulatory bodies governing work in each of these regions.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure project scope, design, and documentation are complete, accurate, and clearly communicated to all stakeholders and contractors
  • Manage procurement activities, including material and equipment availability, RFP preparation, contractor selection, and contract awards
  • Compile and distribute construction packages and provide field support during pipeline and well site construction
  • Maintain project management systems, track pipeline activities, and monitor safety, quality, schedule, cost, and regulatory compliance
  • Develop cost estimates, prepare AFEs, and track project costs using historical and approved financial data
  • Promote innovation and cost-effective solutions to reduce construction, operating, and maintenance costs across pipeline infrastructure
Qualifications
  • Typically 5+ years of pipeline construction and/or pipeline project coordination experience with relevant Engineering Technology diploma or Engineering degree
  • Experience in and familiarity with field operations combined with demonstrated supervisory capabilities
  • Familiarity with and understanding of:
    • Provincial regulatory bodies, including but not limited to:
      • Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) D-56
      • British Columbia Energy Regulator (BCER) / Oil and Gas Commission (OGC)
  • Familiarity with and understanding of:
    • The oil and gas industry particularly construction and/or field operations
    • Pipeline and wellsite construction practices and quality control
    • Pipeline inline inspection technology
    • CSA Z662 Oil and Gas pipeline systems, CSA Z245.1 Line Pipe (latest versions) understanding an asset
    • Pipeline Rules / Regulations /Acts
    • Support Software such as:
      Accu Map, Abadata, Cambio, Navis Works, Quorum Execute, Microsoft Windows, etc.
