Reports toEngineering Manager
LocationCalgary, Alberta — Corporate office based in Calgary with regular field visits to the Montney operating area. Hybrid work arrangements are supported.
Job OverviewReporting to the Engineering Manager, the Facilities Engineer is accountable for the design, optimization, and operational support of surface facilities across our Montney liquids-rich gas asset. The role leads facility scoping and execution on a multi-well pad development program, infrastructure upgrades and modifications, repair and maintenance support, MOC reviews and approvals, and serves as the internal technical authority on gas processing, compression, and liquids handling infrastructure.
The position requires significant field visits and direct involvement from FEED through commissioning and ongoing production optimization.
- Lead FEED, detailed design, and execution of multi-well pad facilities including inlet separation, compression, dehydration, liquids stabilization, and produced water handling.
- Develop facility scopes aligned with reservoir and production engineering inputs; prepare AFEs and manage capital budgets throughout project execution.
- Coordinate with EPC contractors, vendors, and regulatory bodies to deliver projects on schedule and within budget.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables including P&IDs, datasheets, cause-and-effect diagrams, and HAZOP documentation.
- Support compression optimization including compressor sizing, ratio management, and fuel gas efficiency.
- Provide day-to-day technical support to field operations teams on facility troubleshooting, optimization, and uptime improvement.
- Conduct root cause analysis on recurring equipment failures and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime.
- Optimize separator operating pressures, glycol dehydration unit performance, refrigeration optimization, sour facilities design recommendations and NGL recovery across the asset.
- Monitor and analyze production data to identify facility-driven deferral and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Ensure all facility design and modifications comply with AER directives, ABSA pressure vessel requirements, and applicable codes (ASME, CSA, API).
- Prepare and submit AER facility applications, licence amendments, and as-built documentation as required.
- Champion process safety principles including management of change (MOC), pressure relief device (PRD) management, and inspection programs.
- Actively participate in HAZOPs, safety reviews, and pre-startup safety reviews (PSSRs).
- Work closely with surface land, drilling, completions, production engineering and operations to align facility tie-in timing with pad development schedules.
- Collaborate with land and regulatory teams on surface lease requirements and facility placement.
- Mentor junior and intermediate engineers; review and QA engineering work products.
- Contribute to long-range facility planning and asset development studies.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Chemical, or Petroleum Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registered with APEGA.
- 10–15 years of progressive facilities engineering experience in upstream oil and gas in Western Canada.
- Demonstrated design and execution experience on liquids-rich gas facilities — Montney, Deep Basin, or equivalent tight gas/condensate strongly preferred.
- Proficient in gas processing fundamentals: inlet separation, compression, dehydration, condensate stabilization, amine treating, and flaring/venting design.
- Working knowledge of AER facility licensing, ABSA, and applicable codes (ASME…
