Company Overview

We are more than 36,000 people, in over 70 countries, dedicated to improving quality of life. Everyone has an important role to play. With the power of many curious minds, together we can solve the world’s most complex challenges and deliver more impact together.

Role description

Arcadis is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Geotechnical Engineer to join our Canadian Mine Sector team to support clients across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec and Canada’s three territories. This is a client-facing, technical role requiring 15–20 years of direct mining sector geotechnical engineering experience.

This opportunity requires a dynamic individual with proven experience in mine tailings and waste rock management, including serving (or developing toward serving) as an Engineer of Record (EoR) or Deputy EoR. The role includes dam inspection, engineering oversight, and supporting the growth of environmental and mine consulting services.

In this role, you will support Project Managers (PMs) on tailings engineering, environmental investigations, remediation, and permitting projects, while also leading technical delivery. You will oversee junior staff, coordinate resources, and work closely with senior technical leaders. The successful candidate will be expected to act as or grow into an Engineer of Record for mine infrastructure projects.

Role accountabilities

The successful candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary project teams to plan and deliver mine tailings and waste rock investigations, designs, and management solutions across a range of complex mining projects. This includes preparing technical reports and work plans, performing engineering evaluations of tailings facilities, waste rock storage areas, and water management structures (e.g., dams, dykes, and diversion systems), and coordinating with clients and regulatory agencies.

In this role, you will act as or develop toward serving as an Engineer of Record (EoR) or Deputy EoR, providing technical oversight and ensuring engineering integrity across projects. You will lead and contribute to geotechnical engineering reviews, oversee laboratory testing programmes, and support the planning and execution of annual dam and site inspections in accordance with the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management and Canadian Dam Association guidelines.

You will also provide technical leadership to project teams, defining project goals and constraints, guiding junior staff, and coordinating input from internal and external stakeholders. Applying sound engineering judgment and an understanding of mine operations, you will develop practical, risk-informed solutions to address client challenges.

Additionally, you will play a key role in client engagement and business development, supporting existing relationships and identifying opportunities for growth, while representing Arcadis with professionalism and strong communication. This includes supporting permitting efforts and ensuring compliance with regulatory and engineering standards across all project phases.

  • MSc degree in civil or geotechnical engineering, or a related field from an accredited university
  • Minimum 15–20 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering, preferably within the mining industry
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in a Canadian province/territory
  • Demonstrated experience with tailings facilities, dam engineering, and waste rock management
