Agilus by Synergie is recruiting for a Rail Engineering Subject Matter Expert in the Oil and Gas Industry in Calgary, Alberta.

Provide technical leadership for rail engineering across capital projects and operations. Act as SME for yard/rack design, approvals, and integration while supporting optimization and MOC. Ensure compliant, practical solutions aligned to schedule, cost, and operational needs.

Total rewards: $110.00 - $130.00 hourly. Contract role (1 year) with potential extension.

Calgary-based with occasional site travel. Opportunity to lead high‑impact rail infrastructure initiatives. Exposure to major capital project development (pre‑FEED/FEED). Collaborative cross‑functional environment (Engineering & Operations). Work on complex, large‑scale industrial rail systems. Potential for long‑term engagement based on performance.

Responsibilities

A typical day:
Serve as primary Rail SME across pre‑FEED and FEED project phases; develop and maintain rail engineering standards, specs, and governance documents; review and guide rail yard, rack, turnout, and shunting designs; support RFP/RFO development, evaluation, and execution; lead/participate in design, model, and technical reviews; manage rail risk registers and advise on mitigation strategies; interface with Class I railways to ensure compliance and practical outcomes;

support operations with MOC, optimization, and rail‑related modifications.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, or related Engineering.
  • 5+ years in rail infrastructure/design (track, turnouts, yards, terminals).
  • Experience working with Class I railways.
  • Strong governance/documentation and specification development expertise.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers and guide technical decisions.
  • Experience reviewing third‑party engineering deliverables.
  • Knowledge of industrial rail systems (midstream/petrochemical preferred).
  • Strong technical, analytical, and stakeholder communication skills.
