Intermediate Electrical Designer

Department, Group:

Reports To:

Team Lead, Electrical

Job Overview:
Juno Engineering Canada Inc. (Juno) is an EPC consulting firm specializing in electrical, instrumentation, and controls (EIC) solutions for industrial energy facilities across Western Canada. We are currently seeking an Intermediate Electrical Designer to support the development, coordination, and quality of E&I drawing deliverables produced by our internal design and drafting team.

In this full-time role, you will work as an intermediate technologist responsible for producing and coordinating construction-ready E&I drawings in alignment with the Engineer of Record’s (EOR) design requirements. You will apply established design standards, collaborate with engineers and senior designers, and contribute to accurate, consistent, and timely project deliverables.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Drawing Development & Coordination:

Develop a broad range of E&I drawings for assigned projects—including single-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring and interconnection diagrams, cable and tray routing plans, grounding and lighting layouts, heat-trace details, instrument loop diagrams, hookup sheets, junction-box schedules, control-panel GAs, and other circuit drawings.

Maintain drawing indexes, title-block metadata, and document-control registers; coordinate revision updates with the Senior Designer and Document Controller.

Translate redlines, mark-ups, and design calculations from discipline engineers and the EOR into clear, constructible, and code-compliant drawings.

Participate in multidisciplinary model and drawing reviews (30/60/90% and IFC), addressing comments related to drawing clarity, clashes, and constructability.

Coordinate inputs from process, mechanical, civil/structural, and automation teams into cohesive E&I drawing sets.

Design Standards & Quality Assurance:

Apply Juno’s established design standards, symbol libraries, and annotation practices across AutoCAD Electrical and 3-D raceway modelling platforms.

Perform detailed self-checks and peer reviews of drawings prior to Issued-for-Review (IFR), Issued-for-Approval (IFA), and Issued-for-Construction (IFC) submissions.

Support continuous improvement of drafting templates, automated report generation (e.g., cable schedules and loop lists), and drawing production workflows.

Prepare and incorporate as-built drawing updates during construction and project turnover.

Work collaboratively with senior designers, drafters, engineers, and co-op students to maintain accuracy and consistency across project deliverables.

Manage assigned work packages and priorities, communicate progress, and complete deliverables in accordance with project standards and schedules.

Participate in knowledge-sharing sessions on code changes (CEC Part I, ISA standards, IEC 60079) and best-practice detailing techniques.

Interface with Engineering & Construction:

Work closely with project engineers and senior designers to clarify design assumptions, cable sizing, load lists, and hazardous-area requirements.

Support construction teams by preparing field clarification sketches and incorporating approved site mark-ups.

Participate in model walk-downs, field verifications, and plant tie-in surveys to capture existing conditions accurately.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Education & Professional Registration:

Electrical or Instrumentation Engineering Technology diploma (T‑level) or equivalent journeyperson drafting qualification.

5+ years of industrial E&I design and drafting experience on energy-sector projects, with demonstrated ability to independently complete assigned drawing packages.

Registered or eligible for registration as a C.E.T. (ASET) or equivalent designation in Alberta.

Technical

Skills:

Demonstrated experience producing drawings under the direction of an Engineer of Record and senior design personnel.

Working knowledge of CEC Part I, CSA C22.2 standards, ISA instrumentation symbology, and IEC 60079 or API 505 hazardous-area classification documents.

Demonstrated ability to produce and revise:

Single-line diagrams up to 5 kV and grounding diagrams

Detailed wiring…
