Job Description & How to Apply Below

Dark Vision is seeking a Mechanical Test Engineer based in Calgary, AB to lead the testing and validation of our next-generation ultrasound imaging products. This role is responsible for developing the test methods, equipment, and processes to verify that our designs can withstand the demanding operating conditions found across a range of industries, including pressures exceeding 15 ksi and temperatures up to 150°C.

You'll play a key role in ensuring our products are ready for deployment by combining hands-on testing with sound mechanical engineering and practical problem solving.

As a key resource within our testing function, you'll develop test strategies, design and build custom test equipment, and execute validation programs that ensure our products perform reliably in some of the harshest operating environments. You'll work closely with the broader engineering team to define test requirements, troubleshoot prototype hardware, and investigate failures to drive design improvements. While the role is primarily focused on testing and validation, you'll also contribute to the mechanical design of components, fixtures, and assemblies that support both product development and test infrastructure.

This role is based out of our Calgary office, while regularly working at our Edmonton, AB test facility, and occasional travel to our HQ in North Vancouver, BC.

Our Team

If it moves, has to survive extreme conditions, protect delicate electronics, or relies on specialized material properties, the Mechanical Team is probably involved. We're collaborative, curious, and not afraid to take big swings. We work closely with other engineering disciplines to develop thoughtful, innovative solutions to problems that don't always have obvious answers. The work is varied, technically challenging, and gives everyone on the team the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the final product.

What

You Will Do
  • Design and execute experiments on our devices that test for survivability, reliability, and quality of data captured.
  • Design custom equipment for use in testing, including jigs, frames, tanks, and mechanized test platforms.
  • Design tooling and fixtures for the Manufacturing Team to assist with the assembly of our devices.
  • Perform root cause analysis to determine specific failure modes resulting from testing.
  • Record, summarize, and present experimental findings to a multidisciplinary audience.
  • Work with the broader engineering team to inform and implement improvements into our devices.
  • Operate independently at the test facility for extended periods, while maintaining clear communication with engineering and operations teams.
  • Work across our Calgary location and Edmonton test facility, with the time split between sites varying significantly based on testing schedules, project needs, and operational priorities.
Who You Are (Basic Qualifications)
  • Based in Calgary, AB, and willing and able to split working time between Calgary and our Edmonton test facility as needs vary, with occasional travel to North Vancouver, BC
  • Comfortable working independently for much of the time while based at the test facility
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Engineering Physics, or another similar program
  • 3+ years of professional work experience in mechanical design
  • Demonstrated proficiency with hands-on tasks, including the use of hand tools, basic metalworking (drilling, cutting, etc.), and assembly/disassembly of complex mechanical systems
  • Experience with conducting and documenting tests in a lab or field environment
  • Experience in design for manufacturability involving a range of processes, including sheet metal, advanced machining, injection molding, and 3D printing
  • Proficient in creating professional 3D models and assemblies using CAD software such as Solid Works, Fusion 360, or Inventor
  • Proficient in creating 2D drawings and working with external vendors to outsource manufactured parts
  • Comfortable applying manual force, upwards of 50 lbs., to move and/or operate heavy equipment
What Will Put You Ahead
  • Experience working with heavy machinery
  • Experience in the oilfield industry an asset
  • 5+ years experience in a similar role or related field
