Joining Arup
Arup’s purpose, shared values, and collaborative approach has set us apart for over 80 years, guiding how we shape a better world.
Arup is seeking a Senior Civil Design Leader, in our Vancouver or Calgary office, to lead the delivery of complex urban corridor projects.
This role will lead multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, buildable corridor solutions, integrating roadway design, bus rapid transit, intelligent transportation systems, utilities, green infrastructure, and sustainable urban development. You will work closely with municipalities and transit agencies to deliver projects that improve transit reliability, accessibility, and resilience, while maintaining traffic operations and supporting active travel within constrained urban rights-of-way.
This job posting represents an active vacancy within our organization and is open for immediate recruitment.
The opportunity
In Western Canada, our work includes major urban redevelopment and corridor transformation initiatives such as the False Creek South Development Framework in Vancouver, including City of Vancouver vehicle threat mitigation and integrated public realm safety, alongside the Sunalta Corridor redesign in Calgary and broader multimodal corridor and transit-priority improvements.
More widely across Canada, our portfolio includes large-scale urban regeneration and transit-led infrastructure projects such as Bassin Wellington in Montréal, the Mississauga Downtown Mobility Hub and Transitway Connection, as well as more than a decade of complete streets design and delivery for Toronto’s waterfront.
Lead the preliminary and detailed design of urban streets and arterial corridors to create complete streets with multi-modal infrastructure
Mentor staff and develop future leaders, providing strong technical guidance on linear and municipal infrastructure, surface water management, and utilities
Promote collaboration across disciplines and market groups within Arup locally, regionally, and globally
Achieve successful commercial delivery of projects
Act as Bid Manager on civil related pursuits or contribute to wider proposals
You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
Qualifications
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in BC or AB (or readily transferable)
Extensive experience (typically 15+ years) in roadway, streets, or transit corridor design
Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary design teams
Strong experience working with and delivering for public sector clients in British Columbia and/or Alberta
Commercial awareness, including developing fee proposals and managing projects
Desirable: background in complete streets or integrated corridor design, and experience integrating sustainability and resilience
