Build Calgary's essential infrastructure across multiple engineering teams. The City of Calgary is hiring engineers across multiple business units, with opportunities spanning planning, design, project development, and delivery of critical public infrastructure. Qualified applicants may be considered for different engineering disciplines and areas of practice based on business needs and organizational priorities.
As a Project Engineer (Linear), you will be responsible for the overall project management, engineering design, contract preparation and administration, procurement, and quality of major storm, sanitary and water infrastructure capital projects. You will deliver capital infrastructure projects and provide technical expertise from concept through construction and commissioning. You will deliver capital upgrades within operating networks, with strong focus on commissioning and operational readiness.
You will also ensure that new assets integrate safely into live systems. In these roles, you may have the opportunity to contribute to complex, high-impact infrastructure projects such as the Bearspaw South Feeder Main replacement project as well as the North and South Calgary Water Servicing programs. Primary duties include:
- Manage multiple complex projects simultaneously; manage the scope, schedule and budget of engineering consultants and construction contractors.
- Prepare in-house studies, budgets, cost estimates, executive reports, and other written documents and communications to support your projects.
- Lead the planning, design and construction of water, storm and sanitary infrastructure projects, including detailed engineering, route and materials selection, hydraulic and other engineering analyses, land requirements, permitting, and approvals.
- Coordinate internal and external partners and teams, perform public presentations to interested groups, and organize and attend Public Information Sessions.
- Prepare and/or review engineering reports, drawings and contract documents, including the detailed design, material, and technical specifications.
- Perform contract administration duties during construction and direct the coordination of support services such as survey and drafting personnel.
- Monitor and regularly report on your projects to the leadership team, prepare and maintain project charters, plans, and other documents under the Corporate Project Management Framework.
- Proactively resolve problems that may occur during the design and construction of projects, meet project schedule and progress targets.
- Prepare terms of reference, work plans, RFx, and lead or support consultant and contractor selection for projects.

Project Developmentidentifies and develops projects that improve the places and services Calgarians experience. Engineers in this business unit focus on early-stage work such as needs assessment, option analysis, and project definition, working closely with internal teams and interested parties to set projects up for successful delivery.
