Position Overview
As an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, implementation, and commissioning of instrumentation and control systems for gas plants, compressor stations, pipelines, and wellsites. You will develop P&IDs, prepare instrument specifications and data sheets, perform design calculations, and support project scheduling and cost estimating throughout all project phases.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and update Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) in line with project specifications and standardsSupport project planning, including schedule development and engineering/capital cost estimatesPrepare technical specifications, instrument data sheets, and material requisitions, and assist with bid evaluationsCoordinate with vendors during procurement and review vendor drawings for compliance with codes and standardsPerform instrument sizing and design calculations (e.g., control valves, flow devices)Maintain and update instrumentation databases, reports, and related documentationReview and/or produce project deliverables including control system architecture and block diagrams, communications network drawings, PLC and DCS panel drawings, instrument loop diagrams, junction box wiring diagrams, instrument indexes, I/O schematics and lists, and other required documentationDevelop loop diagrams, junction box wiring, cable schedules, and location layoutsPrepare control narratives, control philosophies, and cause & effect matricesSupport programming, commissioning, and startup to ensure systems meet design intentDemonstrate effective teamwork and communication with I&C engineers and designers, as well as cross-functional collaboration with engineering disciplines, project management, clients, and vendorsManage and meet deadlines across multiple concurrent projectsQualifications
Post-secondary education in Instrumentation, Controls, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related applied sciences (degree or diploma)5–10+ years of relevant Instrumentation & Controls engineering experienceEIT or P.Eng designation preferred; strong technologists will also be consideredExperience in the natural gas or energy industry is an asset, but not requiredPrevious EPC project experience is preferredFamiliarity with applicable codes and standards (e.g., CEC, CSA Z662, ASME B31.3, ASME B31.8, ASME Section VIII, API, AGA)Registration with EGBC or ASTTBC is an assetDemonstrated ability to apply engineering judgment to solve problems using established guidelines and proceduresStrong communication and interpersonal skills, with a high level of professionalismSelf-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentDemeanour Required
