Make your mark while you grow your career! We are looking for Directional Well Planner to join our Drilling team at Canadian Natural.

You will be involved in Canadian directional drilling activities with a focus on supporting execution excellence with timely and accurate directional planning. This role is ideal for individuals with an advanced understanding of directional drilling concepts and software tools, eager to learn and contribute to the planning and operational aspects of drilling projects.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Data Entry and database management:
    Input and maintain accurate data in directional drilling software, primarily Landmark Compass, ensuring databases are up to date. Download and organize information from Accu Map, Geo Wiz, and Well View for use in planning and reporting
  • Design and optimize directional, horizontal, thermal and multilateral well trajectories, supporting pad layout optimization, target placement, and field development planning
  • Perform anti-collision analysis, wellbore positioning assessments, and support trajectory revisions during active drilling operations as required
  • Collaborate with Drilling Engineers, Geologists, Reservoir Engineers, Geosteering teams, and Drilling Operations personnel
  • Quality Assurance and Compliance:
    Ensure adherence to directional planning group processes, company standards, industry regulations, and safety protocols in all planning activities

What You Bring to the Role:

  • 5+ years of technical directional planning experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Petroleum, Geological, Geomatics, or a related engineering discipline
  • P.Eng. designation with APEGA or eligibility for registration is considered an asset
  • Strong understanding of wellbore positioning, survey management, and anti-collision practices.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access) Accu Map, COMPASS, Landmark Decision Space, or similar trajectory planning software
  • software platforms
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently
  • Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing project requirements
  • Familiarity with Lean and six sigma philosophies, strongly oriented towards process execution
