As an Water Resources Engineer, in our Calgary office you’ll be responsible for assisting multiple projects where you will have increasing interaction with our multi-disciplinary staff, regulatory agencies and clients. You will be part of a strong team of committed professionals.
The compensation range for this role is $35.00/hr to $60.00/hr, commensurate with experience, skills, and geographic location.
- Designing and restoring natural channels and side channels, including fish habitat enhancement, offsetting, fish passage, and stream restoration projects.
- Designing and assessing watercourse crossings, including bridges, culverts, pipelines, and other linear infrastructure.
- Supporting river engineering projects involving bank stabilization, erosion protection, flood mitigation works, river training, water intakes, channel remediation, and stream restoration.
- Developing and applying hydraulic and hydrologic models for river engineering, watercourse crossings, water management, and flood hazard assessments.
- Supporting mining, transportation, infrastructure, and industrial projects through hydrotechnical assessments, water management planning, and regulatory approvals.
- Completing erosion, scour, geomorphic, flood hazard, and other hydrotechnical assessments.
- Preparing technical reports, engineering design documents, specifications, and regulatory applications.
- Supporting regulatory approvals, permitting, and instream construction planning.
- Conducting field investigations and site assessments.
- Providing construction support, field engineering, and post-construction monitoring.
- Supporting project delivery, including scope, schedules, budgets, and technical deliverables, with opportunities to take increasing responsibility for project management.
- Working collaboratively with engineers, scientists, environmental specialists, clients, regulators, contractors, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders.
- Supporting and mentoring junior team members.
- Field work varies by project and may account for approximately 5 to 30% of your time.
- A bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources
- 3+ years of experience in hydrotechnical or water resources engineering
- A strong foundation in hydraulics and hydrology
- An understanding of erosion, scour, flood hazards, and river processes
- Experience with HEC-RAS Initiative, sound judgement, and a desire to take increasing ownership of technical work, project delivery, and client relationships
- Practical field and construction experience, or a willingness to develop these skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining attention to detail
- Experience working with regulators, clients, contractors, or multidisciplinary project teams
- Registration as a P.Eng., or eligibility for registration within approximately one year, in Alberta or another Canadian province
- A valid Class 5 driver's licence with a satisfactory driving record
