The Technical Specialist in Training (TSIT) will be a member of the Technical Services department responsible for progressing through an advanced 18 to 24 month training program in the Field, Lab and Corporate Head Office. Reporting to the Lead Operations & Training, the TSIT will focus on gaining firsthand experience to all areas of our business while growing technical and operational understanding of hydraulic fracturing, coiled tubing and acid/nitrogen operations.

SPECIFIC

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • The TSIT Program consists of four main phases:
    • 1. Orientation and Lab Technical Services – Calgary Head Office and Calgary Lab
    • 2. Fracturing – In the Red Deer or Grande Prairie District Fracturing Departments
    • 3. Coiled Tubing and Nitrogen (CTAN) – In the Red Deer or Grande Prairie District CTAN Departments
    • 4. Technical Services – Calgary Head Office
Orientation
  • Attend the Orientation and Training School (OaTS) to gain all oilfield tickets required by law and to understand all Calfrac procedures and policies to ensure safety objectives are adhered to
Fracturing
  • Participate in field site training in pressure pumping operations, materials and product management, logistics and software use
  • Become familiar with basic fracturing concepts to understand how each piece of equipment operates and their relative importance to the operation
  • Shadow fracturing operators and or supervisors to gain a further understanding such as the following; equipment operational limitations, plumbing and operation of units, chemical loading and transferring, chemical tote-strapping, chemical injection points and pre-job QA/QC, treating iron rig in and rig out procedures, iron and equipment maintenance / inspection, check valve operations and isolation tools, hydraulics and pneumatics and proppant transport, onsite storage and handling
  • Assist the data van operator as they set up their monitoring software, connect cables to the integral equipment, pressure test treating iron, communicate with members of the crew and execute the job
CTAN
  • Become familiar with basic coil tubing concepts to understand how each piece of equipment operates and their relative importance to the operation
  • Learn the fundamentals of Coiled Tubing operations such as spooling, BOP operations, injector operation, stripper operation, accumulator operation and pipe management and fatigue
  • Learn the different aspects of Coiled Tubing such as fluid pumpers, Nitrogen pumpers, Spooling trailers, and Coil Rigs
  • Learn the different operations that the Coiled Tubing group is capable of such as Annular Fracturing, Velocity Strings, Mill Outs, Fishing, Tubing Conveyed Perforating, and Clean Outs
Lab
  • Laboratory training will include fluid QA / QC, fluid system chemistry and field QA / QC support if required
  • Gain an understanding of the individual chemicals and the importance of each
  • Shadow an on-call person, learning each of the tests required and gaining an appreciation for the types of service work that can occur.
Technical Services Head Office
  • Training to include job program creation in both Frac & CTAN, treatment evaluation, satellite fracturing hosting, data entry and support to technical and sale services
  • Work with Technical Services members and management team and receive basic exposure to daily operations within the group
  • Become familiar with the work flow process including Operations, Engineering and Sales
