Senior Community Manager

Location: Irvine, CA (On-site) |
Type: Full-Time

ROLE OVERVIEW

We are seeking a Senior Community Manager to serve as the primary voice and champion of our players for an upcoming FPS open-world shooter MMO.

In this senior individual contributor role, you will set the standard for community strategy and serve as the lead CM, working alongside a team of Community Managers to shape how we engage, retain, and grow our player base. You will act as the critical bridge between our Western community and the development team in Korea, ensuring that player sentiment, feedback, and culture are represented at the highest levels.

As the voice of our players, you will also work closely with cross‑functional teams to surface trends and discuss opportunities for improvement.

This role requires someone who is as comfortable analyzing community data as they are going live on stream. You are a genuine FPS enthusiast, a natural communicator, and someone who thrives in a live‑service environment where things move fast.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Community Strategy & Leadership
  • Lead community strategy across Discord, Reddit, and social media channels, setting the tone and standards for the entire CM team.
  • Act as the de facto lead CM, mentoring and guiding fellow Community Managers while remaining a hands‑on contributor yourself.
  • Develop and execute community programs, events, and initiatives that drive engagement, retention, and growth.
  • Own community health metrics and report regularly on trends, sentiment, and opportunities to leadership.
Player Engagement & Channel Ownership
  • Manage and moderate our Discord server and Reddit community, fostering a welcoming and active player environment.
  • Support the social media team with community‑driven content, amplification, and player spotlights.
  • Build authentic relationships with players, community leaders, content creators, and influencers.
  • Represent the community in live‑service moments: patch launches, seasonal events, crises, and major announcements.
Player‑Facing Content & Streaming
  • Appear on‑camera for live streams, developer Q&As, community events, and team videos. Must be comfortable engaging players in front of an audience.
  • Collaborate with marketing and creative teams on community‑facing content that feels authentic to players.
  • Create written content including patch notes summaries, community updates, FAQs, and forum posts.
Cross‑Cultural Collaboration with Korea Dev Team
  • Serve as the voice of the Western community to the development team in Seoul:
Synthesizing feedback, sentiment, and player needs into clear, actionable reports.
  • Collaborate closely with Korean counterparts to coordinate community initiatives, localize messaging, and bridge cultural gaps.
  • Navigating cross‑time‑zone communication effectively, representing community priorities in product and roadmap discussions.
QUALIFICATIONS Required
  • 7+ years of professional Community Management experience, with a significant portion in live‑service games.
  • Demonstrated experience owning and growing Discord servers and Reddit communities at scale.
  • Proven ability to synthesize community feedback and communicate it meaningfully to development or product teams.
  • Comfortable on‑camera having experience with live streaming, video appearances, or public‑facing community content.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to adapt tone for both players and internal stakeholders.
  • Experience collaborating with international or cross‑cultural teams, preferably in a publisher/developer relationship.
  • A genuine passion for FPS games, whether through professional experience or as an active player.
Nice to Have
  • Experience working with Korean or Eastern game developers or publishers.
  • Background in MMOs, open‑world games, or games with large, organized player communities.
  • Familiarity with community analytics tools and sentiment tracking.
WHO YOU ARE
  • You treat your community like a craft, you think strategically, but you also genuinely enjoy being in the trenches with players.
  • You’re enthusiastic on camera. Whether it’s a 500‑person stream or a quick team video, you’re engaging, authentic, and represent the brand well.
  • You can distill thousands of forum posts and Discord messages into a clear, prioritized summary a developer team can act on.
  • You have thick skin and good judgment, you know when to engage, when to de‑escalate, and when to elevate internally.
  • You thrive in a fast‑paced live‑service environment where priorities shift to address the latest player needs.
