Our clients include several of the largest oil and gas producers in Canada and worldwide, and we are currently executing a wide range of sweet gas, sour gas, conventional oil and heavy oil facility and pipeline projects.
SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Corporate Tax & Complex Accounting Specialist to lead domestic and international corporate tax activities while supporting complex accounting matters across the organization. This role is pivotal in delivering strategic tax planning, ensuring compliance with global tax regulations, strengthening financial reporting processes, and supporting business expansions, acquisitions, and internal control improvements. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross‑functional teams, external advisors, and global partners to guide the organization through evolving tax environments and complex financial challenges.
Key Responsibilities- Lead end‑to‑end corporate tax compliance, statutory reporting, and tax filings for Canadian and international operations, including correspondence with federal and local tax authorities.
- Provide comprehensive tax advisory, planning, research, and compliance across multiple jurisdictions (including Canada, Australia, the U.S., and India).
- Analyze withholding tax implications and assess tax treaty relief opportunities to optimize cross‑border tax efficiency.
- Monitor legislative changes and ensure full compliance with evolving domestic and international tax regulations.
- Advise on corporate restructurings, reorganizations of foreign affiliates, financing structures, acquisitions, and post‑acquisition integration.
- Collaborate with international tax advisors and compliance providers (U.S., Australia, India, etc.) on reorganizations, financing strategies, regulatory changes, licensing, entity registrations, and ongoing tax compliance.
- Support transfer pricing documentation, indirect tax matters, and cross‑border reporting requirements.
- Partner with international payroll providers to ensure accurate and compliant payroll processes.
- Oversee global compliance providers on government licensing, entity maintenance, and statutory reporting requirements.
- Contribute to the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements, including supporting schedules, working papers, and audit requests.
- Lead complex accounting work related to consolidations, business combinations, financial instruments, and emerging reporting standards.
- Enhance accounting processes, internal controls, and reporting efficiencies across the finance function.
- Support initiatives related to IPO readiness and public-company reporting standards.
- Oversee cash management strategies to optimize liquidity, minimize costs, and enhance returns on surplus funds.
- Identify and implement strategies to mitigate currency risk and hedge against foreign exchange fluctuations.
- Lead and manage an internal or external stakeholder portfolio, offering financial insights and contributing to business development.
- Lead major financial and tax-related projects, assessing risks, developing strategies, and reviewing deliverables.
- Train, mentor, and support junior team members through coaching and knowledge-sharing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 5–10+ years of relevant experience in tax, accounting, or financial reporting.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation (or international equivalent) required.
- Additional tax specialization (e.g., In‑Depth Tax Program) considered an asset.
- Background in public accounting, multinational corporations, or advisory firms preferred.
- Experience in cross‑border tax planning, corporate reorganizations, and global tax matters.
- Exposure to IPO processes and international tax filings is an asset.
- Experience in the oil & gas industry, particularly within an EPCM environment, is an asset.
- Strong technical knowledge of Canadian and international tax legislation.
- Ability to interpret tax treaties and understand international compliance frameworks.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple deadlines and lead complex projects.
- Proficiency with accounting systems and tax software.
