THE ROLE

STRIVE Recruitment is partnered with a well-established Canadian commercial mortgage origination and underwriting firm to recruit an AVP, Lending – Commercial for its expanding Alberta platform.

This organization has operated in the Canadian real estate lending market for over 40 years and serves as the exclusive origination and underwriting partner to a well-capitalized mortgage investment platform. The firm has a long-standing reputation for disciplined credit, consistent performance, and relationship-driven lending across Western Canada and Ontario.

This is a senior commercial origination role focused on expanding lending activity across Alberta, with a primary emphasis on Calgary and Edmonton. Reporting directly to senior management, the successful candidate will leverage existing broker and borrower relationships while continuing to grow a high-quality pipeline across multiple commercial real estate asset classes.

This role offers meaningful autonomy, strong internal support, and the opportunity to help shape regional growth strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Originate and source commercial mortgage opportunities across construction, finished inventory, and income-producing assets (multi-family, rental, and commercial)

Build, maintain, and expand relationships with mortgage brokers, borrowers, co-lenders, lawyers, and other industry stakeholders

Leverage an established professional network to drive consistent, high-quality deal flow

Review, structure, and underwrite transactions with a strong focus on credit quality, risk assessment, and due diligence

Identify under-served markets and emerging lending opportunities across Alberta and broader Canadian markets

Support portfolio oversight, including recoveries and workout situations when required

Collaborate closely with internal underwriting and management teams to align origination, risk, and growth objectives

QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of experience in commercial mortgage lending, origination, or underwriting

Exposure to multiple real estate asset classes

Strong understanding of credit risk assessment, deal structuring, and due diligence

Proven success building and maintaining broker and borrower relationships

Degree in Finance, Real Estate, Urban Land Economics, or a related discipline

Licensed as a Mortgage Broker in Alberta  or  experience working with a conventional lending institution

Strong business development, negotiation, and communication skills

Alberta market knowledge is a strong asset

Compensation

Competitive base salary

Commission tied to production

Total compensation commensurate with experience and performance
