Overview

Role Responsibilities

The Senior Policy Analyst joins a team of professionals responsible for the development and maintenance of Alberta’s employment standards and workers’ compensation legislation. The position will provide strategic advice and technical analysis related to employment standards and workers’ compensation policy and legislation, support the development of stakeholder‑responsive policy and legislation through government approval processes, lead stakeholder engagement or public consultation, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and support cross‑divisional projects related to the interpretation and application of employment standards and workers’ compensation legislation.

  • Strong ability to interpret and apply legislation and provide recommendations on sensitive policy issues.
  • Knowledge of government decision‑making and policy development process as well as public consultation processes.
  • Strong research skills and the ability to proactively monitor and conduct strategic analysis of employment standards and workers’ compensation trends and make sense of and communicate large and complex information under tight deadlines.
  • Exceptional relationship‑building and communications skills, including excellent listening skills, superior writing ability, organizational and presentation skills.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage a wide variety of projects and processes in achieving the division’s goals and strategies.
Qualifications

University graduation in a related field plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Preference will be given to candidates with the following assets:

  • Broad knowledge of employment standards and workers’ compensation and workplace relationships to provide relevant strategic advice.
  • Understanding of workplace trends and issues within an employment standards and workers’ compensation context.
