The Public Safety & Emergency Services is responsible for all provincial correctional and remand centers, young offender programs and community corrections across the province. The Sentence Administration Unit manages and accurately interprets complex legal documents pertaining to holding and releasing of inmates received from various stakeholders including courts, policing agencies, sheriffs, the judiciary etc. For more information on Correctional Services, visit

Responsibilities
  • Maintain offender warrant files.
  • Comprehend and correctly interpret legal documents.
  • Prepare, manage, and update inmate legal files.
  • Perform complex sentence calculations, including Conditional Sentence Orders.
  • Interpret complex legal documents and dispositions prepared by the court to ensure lawful detention or release of an accused.
  • Liaise with Sheriffs and Court stakeholders to coordinate the transportation of inmates to their court dates.
  • Assist internal and external stakeholders while applying the Freedom of Information and Protection (FOIP) Act.
  • Perform data entry within ORCA.
  • General administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications

High School Diploma plus three (3) years of Sentence Administration related experience which includes administrative work, data entry, and/or legal administration.
Preference will be given to those with post‑secondary education in a related field (Criminal Justice, Legal Administration, Sociology, etc.) and to those who have work experience in a related environment (correctional centre, criminal law office, etc.).

Equivalency
  • Directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of:
  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year education.
Assets
  • Post‑secondary education in Criminal Justice or Legal Administration.
  • Working experience providing criminal law administration assistance.
  • Experience working, reading, and interpreting legal documents.
  • Working experience with Government systems such as JOIN, ORCA, or CPIC.

This competition will be used to fill one permanent full‑time position. Hours of Work: 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

Calgary Correctional Centre - 11808 85 Street NW, Calgary, Alberta T3R 1J3.

If not already completed via previous employment within the department, the successful applicant will be required to attend a three‑week paid training program held in Edmonton. The completion of this training program is mandatory.

Final candidates for this position will be required to provide a Fingerprint‑Based Criminal Record Check. Any associated costs will be your responsibility, and you are only required to provide this check if requested. We cannot accept online Criminal Record Checks from a non‑Policing Agency.

Public transportation to the Centre is limited and the successful candidate is required to have access to reliable transportation. Parking is available. Any costs associated with obtaining the required documents/checks as noted or interview travel expenses, will be the responsibility of the candidate.
