Bylaw Enforcement Officer – Municipal Enforcement
Full-Time, Permanent
As part of our Municipal Enforcement team, you “Take Care of Banff” through the enforcement of Town Bylaws and Parking Regulations. You will contribute to a sustainable transportation and vehicle management system in Town through your enforcement of Parking Regulations, and you will respond to and investigate Bylaw complaints as they arise.
Responsibilities include making regular enforcement patrols of all parking areas, focusing on paid parking and controlled residential parking zones. You will utilize the electronic ticketing system to conduct enforcement and support your charges with photo evidence. You will be expected to show impeccable accuracy in your data entry and keep detailed records of your enforcement efforts. You have interpersonal skills and diplomacy to engage visitors and residents in the course of your duties, often dealing with emotional and agitated clients.
You use past work experience to manage highly charged emotional situations and demonstrate professionalism, confidence and sound judgement based on facts and observation.
You will respond to calls for service related to Bylaw complaints and work closely with other members of the Municipal Enforcement team to effectively bring these complaints to resolution. You will also work collaboratively with other Town departments to gather evidence and information as required. Your ability to gather information objectively and make decisions based on the evidence before you is key to success in this position.
Additional duties: perform administrative functions on occasion, such as reviewing, verifying, and approving Residential Parking Permits. Required knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and/or enforcement related software is an asset.
Physical and cognitive requirements: uniformed presence in the community and the physical ability to spend most of the day outside, on foot or bicycle patrolling downtown core and nearby parks and amenity areas in all elements Mother Nature may deliver. Cognitive abilities include measured responses in emotional situations, problem‑solving approach and attention to detail.
Education and experience:
related post‑secondary education and prior work or volunteer experience in an enforcement‑related field and familiarity with local government functions are very desirable. Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence and ability to produce a clear driver abstract and RCMP criminal background check prior to employment are required.
