NSB Omega is searching for a Waste Advisor for our MAJOR Oil & Gas Client in Calgary, AB.

Assignment Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Waste Advisor to join the Sustainability Team and provide Waste Management and Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG) subject matter expertise (SME) to Canadian upstream and downstream operations.

This role supports operational excellence, environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement across multiple assets and jurisdictions.

The Waste Advisor will serve as the primary technical resource for waste management programs, regulatory approvals, hazardous waste reduction initiatives, waste reporting, TDG compliance, emergency response planning, and third‑party waste contractor oversight.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with site sustainability teams, operations, procurement, regulators, industry associations, external waste service providers, and global sustainability teams.

Responsibilities

Waste Management & Regulatory Compliance

Provide technical and regulatory guidance on waste management requirements to Sustainability and Operations teams across Canadian assets.

Act as the primary technical contact for waste‑related approvals, permit amendments, regulatory submissions, and compliance reporting.

Maintain and support the execution of asset waste management plans.

Ensure compliance with applicable federal, provincial, and local waste management regulations.

Develop and implement regulatory change management processes related to waste management.

Manage new and modified waste permits and compliance tracking activities.

Support environmental requirements for turnaround and maintenance activities through development of environmental management plans.

Steward waste management key performance indicators (KPIs) and support annual waste reporting requirements.

Identify and implement waste reduction, reuse, recycling, treatment, and disposal improvement opportunities.

Lead hazardous waste reduction initiatives, including management of waste streams such as sludge, spent caustic, catalysts, and other industrial waste materials.

Drive enhancements to waste management systems, tools, and processes, including electronic manifesting programs.

Serve as administrator for electronic waste manifesting platforms and provide user support to site personnel.

Analyze waste data and develop metrics to support internal and external reporting requirements.

Waste Facility & Contractor Management

Manage the Waste Facility Risk Assessment (WFRA) program and conduct annual reviews of approved waste facilities.

Verify ongoing compliance with approved waste receiver requirements and support internal audits.

Coordinate third‑party waste facility assessments and audits to maintain approved receiver lists.

Maintain effective working relationships with third‑party waste management providers and waste receivers.

Provide technical input and support to procurement teams during waste contract development and evaluation.

Stakeholder Engagement & Industry Advocacy

Represent the organization on external industry committees and stewardship organizations, including CAPP and CIAC.

Engage with regulatory agencies, communities, and industry stakeholders on waste management matters.

Support alignment and collaboration with global and India‑based Sustainability Teams.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG)

Provide TDG technical and regulatory guidance to Sustainability and Operations teams.

Support safe transportation and handling of dangerous goods across operational sites.

Manage Emergency Response Assistance Plans (ERAPs), including renewals, updates, and regulatory compliance.

Coordinate with emergency response organizations, consultants, and external stakeholders to maintain effective emergency preparedness.

Arrange and support annual TDG training programs for site technical advisors and third‑party emergency responders.

Provide guidance on dangerous goods movements and transportation compliance requirements.

Support truck and rail transportation compliance inspections and assessments.
