The Police Review Commission (PRC) is Alberta’s independent civilian oversight agency responsible for police oversight and complaint management under the Police Act. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) operates as a branch of the PRC and is responsible for investigating incidents involving serious injury or death that may have resulted from the actions of a police officer, as well as other serious or sensitive incidents involving police conduct.

ASIRT integrates civilian investigators and investigators from partner law enforcement agencies to conduct objective, independent, and thorough investigations involving Alberta police officers and peace officers. For more information regarding the PRC and ASIRT, please visit the PRC website:

Role Responsibilities

As an Information Administrator, you will play an essential role in managing investigative information and supporting the integrity, security, retention, disclosure, and lifecycle management of investigative records within the ASIRT branch. You will be involved throughout the lifecycle of investigations, from file creation within electronic case management systems through to disclosure, records retention, and investigative support processes.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing investigative records and assisting investigative staff in ensuring electronic and physical records, exhibits, digital evidence, and disclosure materials are appropriately organized, secured, and maintained in accordance with operational and legislative requirements.
  • Auditing investigative files for completeness, accuracy, quality, integrity, disclosure readiness, and compliance with records management standards and evidentiary requirements.
  • Liaising with police services, government ministries, Crown prosecutors, defence counsel, fatality inquiry stakeholders, oversight agencies, and access and privacy professionals regarding disclosure, information-sharing, and records management requirements.
  • Reviewing, vetting, preparing, and redacting investigative records for disclosure in accordance with applicable legislation, including the Police Act, Police Conduct and Oversight Regulation, Protection of Privacy Act (POPA), Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), Fatality Inquiries Act, and other applicable legislation, policies, and evidentiary standards.
  • Supporting investigative operations through the setup and maintenance of mobile technology, secure remote access systems, records management tools, X-Fire, and other investigative software platforms.
  • Providing first-line technical and operational support and training related to investigative technologies, databases, hardware, software applications, and records management systems.
  • Completing necessary legal searches and obtaining documents required to support investigations utilizing programs such as JOIN, ROADS, CPIC and court searches.
