Respiratory Therapist I role at Alberta Health Services
The Respiratory Therapist (RRT) provides leadership and expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy and will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. You will actively participate in the education of patients, students, staff, and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice;
advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centered care; and provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. All RRT positions at FMC are expected to be able to work in all areas that Respiratory Services clinically supports if required. Daily service area assignments can be adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet department and operational needs.

- As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress.
- You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions.
- You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes.
- You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Required Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Consideration may be given to graduates of a Respiratory Therapy program who have completed a final practicum in an acute care setting.
- Current BLS certification including expiration date.
- This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs.
- NRP/ACLS. FMC Experience
- Completion of professional development courses. Preceptor training course.
